Job Description

HII - Mission Technologies is looking to hire an Aerospace Engineer - to provide technical support for Aviation Environmental Control Systems to the Army Maneuver Air Directorate (MAD) and the Propulsion Branch in Huntsville, Alabama. The Army's MAD provides its engineers and analyst the opportunity to gain experience in various programs, including Research & Development, Fielding & Implementation, and Sustainment Engineering programs supporting the DoW Aerospace Industry. In addition, HII engineers and analysts set the standard of professional and ethical conduct and participate in diverse professional development opportunities. This position can be performed remotely.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Review test plans, test reports, and analyses concerning compliance with specification and/or qualification requirements.
  • Review quality escapes and Manufacturing Review Boards (MRBs) and document airworthiness concerns.
  • Provide recommendations on the requirements coverage, success criteria, and acceptability of the test plans and reports, risks or potential risks of the test plan and report, and corrective actions or improvements to the test plan and report.
  • Provide support for test witnessing, evaluation of test results, and/or post-test inspections and recommendations regarding requirements coverage of tests and post-test hardware condition and performance.
  • Review technical changes to manuals and maintenance procedures, participate in program and design reviews and technical meetings, and support failure investigations and procedure validations/verifications.
  • Provide technical and project engineering support for Environmental Control related improvements developed under the Component Improvement Program.
  • Provide support for Depot and repair activities to include Maintenance and Overhaul (M&O) plan and hardware repair reviews, and support of Product Verification Audits (PVAs).
  • Provide support for alternate source evaluations, intercept actions, and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) engineering requests.
  • Provide technical support for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and/or Cost Wise Readiness activities relating to Environmental Control Systems.
  • Provide technical input on Foreign Military Sales support.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
  • Preferred: 18 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 16 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 14 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • The ability to document processes and methodologies for the design and airworthiness qualification of Environmental Control Systems, generate memorandums, briefings and related documentation in electronic format (MS Word and PowerPoint), and provide memorandums, briefings, recommendations and analyses for Government use to ensure standardization and effectiveness of the
  • Airworthiness process as conducted by the Propulsion Division.
  • Ability to perform data reduction and analysis to evaluate Environmental Control and component performance and provide recommendations on the compliance of performance submittals with respect to applicable requirements along with detailed studies to determine corrective actions or improvements.
  • Ability to provide written recommendations regarding field inquiries concerning serviceability of Environmental Control Systems and interpretation of airworthiness requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and parts lists, plus ability to write clear and concise memorandums.
  • Provide engineering support for Environmental Control Systems relating to helicopters, unmanned air vehicles and fixed wing platforms.
  • Documented working knowledge of performing thermal analyses.Experience using/developing various software tools to conduct Steady State and Transient Thermodynamic Design & Analysis (Heating, Cooling, Dehumidification Calculations) on Air, Water, Hydraulic Fluid, Gas (Dry Air), Vapor, and Steam Systems.
  • The candidate should have documented experience on performing risk analysis, reliability analysis, and data reduction and analysis to evaluate Environmental Control performance, providing recommendations on the compliance of performance submittals with respect to applicable requirements and detailed studies to determine corrective actions.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time.


Preferred Requirements

  • 18 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 16 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 14 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • Working knowledge of multiple DoD software programs to include but not limited to Product Data Reporting and Evaluation Program (PDREP), The Army Maintenance Management System-Aviation/Maintenance Consolidated Database System (TAMMS-A/MCDS), SRD Task Tracking System (TTS), and Aircraft/Engine Electronic Technical Manuals (ETMs)/Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
  • Experience conducting Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Experience/Knowledge with writing and reviewing of Aeronautical Design Specifications, such as ADS-50 & AMACC, used in Design, Performance, and Qualification of ECS systems a plus.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-810 Environmental Testing requirements used in ECS system qualification.
  • Experience writing and reviewing AWIS, SSRAs, System Safety Management Plans, FMECA/FEMA, and Safety Design Requirements Definition.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 25 yrs; or Masters of Science in Engineering with 23 yrs; or Ph.D in Engineering with 21 yrs.


Physical Requirements

  • May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
