The Opportunity:

TetraTechis adding an Environmental Compliance Specialist to our team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Position Summary:

We're currently seeking anEnvironmental Compliance Specialist to join our team based in Albuquerque, NM. This role offers the opportunity to lead environmental compliance for complex water resources and restoration projects across the Southwest and nationally. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies while leading technical work, mentoring staff, and shaping innovative solutions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare and coordinate National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and supporting environmental analyses.


  • Prepare Biological Assessments and related documentation to support Endangered Species Act (ESA) compliance.


  • Prepare and oversee environmental permits, including Clean Water Act (CWA) Sections 404 and 401.


  • Support stream and river restoration planning and related environmental evaluations.


  • Conduct desktop research and field surveys of vegetation, wildlife, and wildlife habitat.


  • Evaluate potential project impacts to natural resources and recommend compliance measures.


  • Perform wetland delineations in accordance with applicable regulatory standards.


  • Conduct GIS-based mapping, spatial analysis, and preparation of project exhibits.


  • Manage projects, including leading technical components, tracking budgets, and coordinating with clients.


  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate project teams and technical staff.


  • Support business development for biological and environmental services.


Requirements Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field, with at least 10+ years of professional experience in environmental science, including resource evaluation, compliance and permitting documentation, regulatory agency coordination, and work as part of an integrated team; or


  • Master's degree in Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field, with at least 8+ years of professional experience in environmental science, including resource evaluation, compliance and permitting documentation, regulatory agency coordination, and work as part of an integrated team.


  • Experience preparing reports and documentation to support NEPA, CWA, and ESA compliance.


  • Knowledge of regional plant, fish, and/or wildlife species and their habitat requirements.


  • Experience developing habitat assessments, mitigation plans, and/or monitoring plans.


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


  • Experience using GIS for environmental mapping and analysis.


  • Experience using field data collection equipment, including GPS units.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout the Southwestern United States. Travel is estimated to be up to 25% annually.


  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, wind, and cold.


  • Ability to perform extended fieldwork in rugged terrain, including walking, standing, bending, and kneeling.


  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.


  • Ability to sit at a workstation and use a computer for extended periods.


  • Manual dexterity to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other tools.


  • Strong communication skills, both in person and electronically.


Additional Information:

  • This position is based in ourAlbuquerque, NM office on a hybrid schedule.


  • This is a full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, with standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be required based on project needs.
