A Brief Summary of This Position:

We are seeking a dedicated and strategic Environment & Sustainability Compliance Program Manager to lead and implement compliance-focused environmental and sustainability programs across the North and South Americas region. This role is responsible for supporting compliance with environmental regulations, driving sustainability initiatives, and aligning environmental strategies with broader business objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental regulations, corporate reporting frameworks, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. In addition to managing environmental and sustainability programs, this individual will provide technical expertise and guidance to regional EHS leadership, site EHS teams, commercial partners, and other business leaders, ensuring consistent interpretation and execution of environmental compliance requirements across global operations.

The expected focus for the role is approximately 75% environmental and 25% sustainability.

Essential Functions:
  • This position reports to the Global Director - Environment & Sustainability and may also work collaboratively under the guidance of other EHS leadership functions. The role has no direct reports but serves as a key influencer across operational, commercial, and functional teams globally.
  • Serves as an internal consultant and subject matter expert, providing technical expertise and guidance to site EHS teams, regional EHS leadership, commercial partners, and business leaders to support environmental compliance and sustainability alignment.


  • Leads efforts to strengthen the environmental acumen of Valmont EHS professionals, aligning knowledge levels with health and safety competencies. Develops a sustainable learning system to support long-term capability building and mitigate the impact of EHS personnel turnover.


  • Monitors global environmental and sustainability regulatory trends-leveraging a third-party service provider-and communicates impact assessments through web-based training, newsletters, stakeholder briefings, and other communication channels.


  • Co-manages the publication, review, and revision of all environmental and sustainability documentation, including playbooks, standards, procedures, and training materials, in accordance with Corporate EHS requirements. Ensures timely and effective communication of updates across the region.


  • Leads the Americas PFAS Management Program, including jurisdictional guidance and timely, accurate reporting requirements for all impacted operations.


  • Develops and maintains a centralized system for tracking environmental and sustainability projects, enabling accurate disclosures for the Annual Sustainability Report, CDP, S&P CSA, and other frameworks.


  • Provides leadership and subject matter expertise in sustainability-related initiatives such as assessments, strategy development, employee engagement, climate reporting, green building, and training.


  • Participates in shaping Valmont's stewardship programs by helping transition efforts toward proactive and predictive environmental performance management.


  • Conducts and supports environmental risk assessments, leads or supports incident investigations, and contributes to environmental insurance reviews in coordination with Corporate Risk.


  • Collaborates closely with site-level EHS personnel to align local actions with global environmental and sustainability goals, ensuring consistent program execution.


  • Identifies and leads initiatives focused on waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and emissions reduction across operations.


  • Prepares and delivers communications such as presentations, webinars, technical reports, and proposal materials that convey Valmont's environmental and sustainability strategy and performance.


  • Represents Valmont at external trade associations, regulatory meetings, and industry conferences to ensure alignment with emerging best practices and regulatory developments.


  • Supports the development, promotion, and recognition of Valmont's Annual Sustainability Award, including nomination review and selection process.


  • Requires up to 40% international/domestic travel including overnight stays, to engage with sites, regions, and global stakeholders.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
  • BS degree with 5+ years of relevant technical experience or AS degree with 7+ years of relevant technical experience or 9+ years relevant technical experience.

Highly Qualified Candidate:
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MS or MBA) in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental and sustainability roles, ideally within a global organization.
  • Proven track record of leading global programs and influencing cross-functional teams.
