Full Job Description
Under direct supervision, supports the development of engineering designs for a variety of civil and water-related projects. This role provides opportunities to work on site development, water and wastewater infrastructure, stormwater management, hydraulics and hydrology, and structural applications while gaining experience with real-world engineering challenges and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Engineering Design: Develop basic-complexity designs involving site layout, grading and drainage, hydraulics and hydrology, water distribution and collection systems, storage tanks, impoundments, foundations, stormwater infrastructure and treatment, and occasional single-story structures.
• Project & Site Support: Conduct site reviews and studies as needed to evaluate existing conditions and ensure designs are appropriate for project and location-specific requirements. Update design requirements as project needs evolve.
• Regulatory & Quality Compliance: Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while ensuring firm policies, procedures, and quality standards are incorporated into project deliverables.
• Technical Development: Contribute to the firm's technical knowledge base by developing white papers, technical design documentation, and materials related to new or specialized designs and studies.
• Professional & Industry Engagement: Prepare technical papers and designs for potential publication and support the development of posters and presentations for conferences and other professional events.
• Perform other duties as required.
Skills & Abilities
Basic Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Additional Pay Range Information

This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation
All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
