Overview:

We are seeking an Enterprise Networking Team Lead who will focus on leading a team of network engineers and administrators responsible for supporting and modernizing ORNL's campus wide enterprise networking infrastructure and associated services, while coordinating strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and complex technical projects that support laboratory business and research operations. This position resides in the Enterprise Operations in the DSIO Division, ITSD, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee a team of network engineers and administrators responsible for ORNL's campus wide enterprise networking environment, including LAN, wireless, WAN, data center, and cellular networking services.
  • Manage daily enterprise network operations, complex technical projects, vendor coordination, and cross organizational priorities to ensure reliable and secure service delivery.
  • Develop and implement operational improvements, infrastructure lifecycle strategies, and proactive monitoring and analysis capabilities to improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, business organizations, and research programs to ensure enterprise networking services align with current and future laboratory mission needs.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A BS degree in information technology or a related discipline and 8 years of relevant experience in Networking or Information Technology; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience supporting and operating enterprise networking environments including LAN, wireless, WAN, data center, and network security technologies.
  • Experience leading or coordinating complex infrastructure projects and operational initiatives within a large enterprise environment.
  • Strong technical understanding of enterprise networking principles, operational resiliency, infrastructure lifecycle management, cybersecurity best practices, and proactive operational improvement methodologies.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with enterprise network modernization initiatives including network segmentation, wireless modernization, infrastructure refreshes, or network security improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor technical staff, and work effectively across multiple teams and organizations.
  • Familiarity with automation, scripting, infrastructure monitoring, or data driven operational analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Experience coordinating vendor relationships, technical implementations, and cross organizational infrastructure initiatives.
  • Experience developing or implementing proactive operational strategies, service improvements, or infrastructure modernization initiatives within a large enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance operational support, strategic planning, and infrastructure improvement initiatives within a dynamic enterprise environment.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non technical audiences.


Special Requirements:
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.


Hybrid Eligibility:

This position is located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and requires onsite presence. We offer a flexible work environment that supports both the organization and the employee. A hybrid/onsite working arrangement may be available with this position, which provides flexibility to work periodically from your home, while reporting onsite to the Oak Ridge, Tennessee location on a weekly and regular basis.
