What you’ll be doing...
You'll be providing advanced break/fix support and real-time optimization for Verizon's wireless core edge network infrastructure, including EPC and 5G Core edge elements. As an Engineer II on the wdNMC team, you'll bring deeper technical expertise and greater independence to the shift — taking direct ownership of edge element health and driving complex issue resolution as part of a 24/7 operations environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading Edge Break/Fix for EPC/5GC edge elements including PGW, SGW, UPF, SMF, PCRF/PCF, and IMS elements (P-CSCF, S-CSCF, TAS)
Performing regular health checks and proactive surveillance to identify software and network-related issues before they impact customers
Driving end-to-end resolution of issues — LODs, degradations, and network normalization — partnering with internal teams as needed
Monitoring network performance in real time and initiating outage bridges when anomalies or degradations are detected across edge infrastructure
Providing monitoring and break/fix support for IMS infrastructure to ensure VoLTE and VoNR service continuity, coordinating with cross-functional teams on IMS-originated customer-impacting events
Supporting alarm monitoring and automation; working with cross-functional teams to keep dashboards and alerting current with network evolution and new technology introduction
Responding to CNS and Downdetector alerts and leading initial triage of customer-impacting events tied to edge elements
Collaborating with vendor and internal teams on ad hoc monitoring and response for new bugs and platform defects as they arise
Supporting JIRA ticket assignments for break/fix and project work supporting TEI, SLNMC, and VNOE/VCP teams
Supporting RCA activities and reviewing ECHO verbiage for accuracy
Supporting major NMC initiatives including automation, efficiency improvements, and new technology introduction (network slicing, VoNR, converged core migrations)
What we’re looking for...
You thrive working independently in a 24/7 shift environment and bring a strong technical foundation in wireless core and edge networking. You're hands-on, self-motivated, and comfortable being the senior technical resource on shift — diving deep into edge element behavior, building out tooling, and keeping the network healthy. You have sharp analytical instincts, a methodical troubleshooting approach, and a passion for automation and proactive monitoring.
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, demonstrated through prior network operations or engineering roles and/or military experience
Hands-on experience with EPC/5GC edge elements including PGW, SGW, UPF, SMF, PCRF/PCF, and IMS components supporting VoLTE services
Strong understanding of wireless core network architecture across EPC, 5GC, and IMS
Ability to work shift-based hours in support of a 24/7 operations environment
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Experience with scripting for automation, monitoring, or alerting (Python, Bash, or similar)
Experience building real-time performance dashboards and developing custom alerting solutions
Experience supporting VoLTE, VoNR, or IMS-based services including familiarity with SIP signaling and IMS call flow troubleshooting
Experience supporting network slicing, VoNR, or other advanced 5G services
Experience supporting large-scale network projects including technology migrations and new feature introductions.
Experience with break/fix troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex, time-sensitive network events
Knowledge of JIRA or similar ticketing platforms for break/fix and project tracking
Knowledge of converged core architectures and participation in major migration projects
Networking or vendor-specific certifications (e.g., Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia, or equivalent)
Understanding of strategic network monitoring tools such as Airwaves, Spirent, nG1, SevONE, and AI Tools like Claude, Notebook LM, and Gemini
