Position Summary

This position is in Triad Asset Design Group. The Asset Design Team designs and oversees the design of Substation Optimization Projects and Large Customer Work. This position requires field visits to review and discuss scope of work with the engineering firms and contractor managers. This position requires working with many teams including Off Site Engineering Firms, Contractor Managers, Project Managers, Project Controls, Asset Management Team, Zone Engineering, R&I Engineers, and Line workers. The position supports storms in both the Triad Area and may be required to travel to other locations within the Duke Energy Systems and off-systems sites.

Engineering Technologist III is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. Engineering Technologist III provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Senior Engineering Technologist is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
  • Maintains accurate records and files,
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.


Basic/Required Qualifications

Engineering Tech III
  • Either 2+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 4+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years equivalent experience without a degree

Senior Engineering Tech
  • Either 4+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 6+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 8+ years equivalent experience without a degree

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management
  • Experience using Maximo/BOUD
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds


Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
  • Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
  • Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles.
  • Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations.


Working Conditions
  • Hybrid - The classification of Hybrid Worker carries the expectation of working from the assigned work location or project sites at least three days per week to promote durable professional relationships and support ongoing career development
