Role: Engineering Technician

Job Description

We are seeking an Engineering Technician / Petro Analyst (Business Analyst II) to support well servicing, engineering, and operations teams through advanced data management, reporting, and analytics. This role is responsible for improving data integrity, developing automated reporting solutions, and delivering actionable insights to engineering, operations, and leadership stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in data analysis, dashboard development, and SQL-based reporting, along with experience supporting oil and gas operations data environments. This position plays a key role in enabling data-driven decision-making and improving operational efficiency across multiple systems and workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Support data governance initiatives to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of operational and production data.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and interactive applications for engineering, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Build and optimize reporting tools using platforms such as Power BI, Spotfire, Databricks, or similar technologies.
  • Develop automated workflows and web-based reporting tools that integrate with source systems.
  • Create and maintain data validation, QA/QC, and reconciliation processes to improve data accuracy.
  • Generate exception reports to identify and resolve data integrity issues across multiple systems.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data issues across enterprise systems supporting daily operations.
  • Support system upgrades and enhancements, including testing, validation, and workflow improvements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including engineering, IT, operations, and vendors to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and deliver reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Provide training, documentation, and user support to improve adoption of reporting tools and systems.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for reporting tools, data systems, and analytics processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, automate reporting, and enhance data quality.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting engineering, drilling, completions, or production operations data environments.
  • Strong experience in data governance, reporting, and analytics within oil and gas or industrial operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL for data querying, transformation, and analysis.
  • Experience building dashboards and reports using Power BI, Spotfire, or similar tools.
  • Experience with Databricks, Python, or other data processing tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas operational systems such as WellView, ProCount, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data validation, QA/QC, and data integrity management practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex data issues across multiple systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present technical data to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments including engineering, IT, and operations teams.
  • Strong documentation and process improvement skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as a subject matter expert (SME) for enterprise reporting systems.
  • Experience supporting drilling, completions, or production operations data workflows.
  • Experience with automation, workflow optimization, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of upstream oil and gas data structures and operational reporting requirements.
  • Experience supporting system upgrades, testing, and implementation projects.

Work Environment

Job Details

Pay: $61.60 to $70.84 /hr
