Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of up to 25 software engineers in D454.
  • Plan and coordinate all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Gather requirements and oversee software design and development.
  • Ensure integration and testing of software meets product standards.
  • Review and approve software products to ensure quality.
  • Manage project budgets, estimates, and schedules effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement processes within the software team.

About the Role

 

Join an engineering organization where your leadership directly supports real-time embedded systems in the most demanding environments on earth.  Department 454, Tactical Software Engineering,  is responsible for designing and delivering highly complex, mission‑critical software for various classes of Navy submarines.

 

We’re looking for a Software Engineering Supervisor who is ready to lead a talented group of up to 15 engineers and help shape the next generation of naval technology, ensuring our ability to provide the strategic advantage that protects sailors, their families, and our freedom.

What You’ll DoYou will guide your team through the full software development lifecycle, ensuring that your team produces high‑quality software that meets the rigorous requirements and schedules of internal and external customers.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and mentoring a high‑performing team of software engineers
  • Overseeing planning, coordination, and execution of software development lifecycle activities
  • Partnering with internal customers, external stakeholders, system engineers, and hardware teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Developing estimates, schedules, and budgets, and ensuring resources are effectively allocated
  • Reviewing and approving technical products to ensure Technical Product Quality
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives that elevate performance, process, and product quality
  • Supporting personnel development through coaching, training, and clear direction

 

What Success Looks LikeYou’ll excel in this position if you can skillfully balance technical leadership with people development, all while keeping a close eye on quality, cost, and schedule commitments.  A successful leader will help engineers grow, strengthens team performance, and ensures complex software products are delivered with first time quality.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or a Bachelor of Science degree in a technical related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ of post-graduate professional experience in Engineering

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of engineers
  • Understands the software development lifecycle
  • Familiar with JIRA and Confluence
