Full Job Description
The job of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager involves planning and executing best practices and advanced methods born from manufacturing engineering knowledge that will dramatically reduce injuries, improve quality, and increase efficiency and throughput within Gibson's operating footprint. This position is commissioned to transform Gibson's manufacturing capability through a broad lens of engineered solutions while maintaining the hand-crafted value that customers revere.

Essential Functions
  • Lead the development and implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment that optimize safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency
  • Collaborate with other cross functional teams and leadership to set and assess priorities and accomplish common goals
  • Provide subject matter expert leadership to support problem solving of manufacturing issues
  • Lead and develop a team of manufacturing engineers and CNC programmers in the following:
    1. Improve and monitor process cycle times
    2. Develop, monitor and analyze production data and key metrics, identifying areas for improvement and gaging performance success
    3. Ensure success through daily direction, mentorship, and professional growth
  • Work with Product Engineering and Operations to bridge communication, performance and implementation of new processes and products
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Manage the development, procurement and fabrication, and implementation of new equipment, technologies, and automation into the production process
  • Identify and maintain ownership for cost reduction initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiencies and cost of poor quality
  • Lead identification, development, and implementation of CapEx projects ensuring budget alignment, production integration success, and ROI results
  • Lead efforts to successfully pass new product introductions (NPI) through various operational stage gates to ensure successful product delivery
  • Work cross functionally with Product Development teams to properly document drawings, specifications, BOMs, and labor routings of new and current products
  • Analyze manufacturability and identify tooling, equipment, and other changes necessary to manufacture new products successfully
  • Collaborate with maintenance department to implement improvements and ensure preventative maintenance of all equipment is performed
  • Employee can be asked to perform other duties that are reasonable within the area of expertise


Required Skills/Abilities
  • On-display business acumen to effectively interact with leadership team, contractors and suppliers
  • Ability to isolate issues and drive to root cause solutions
  • Analyze data and determine priorities for team of engineers
  • Ability to develop engineering team and grow their skill sets


Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree is required. Advanced degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience in a highly technical manufacturing environment making consumer goods where performance and aesthetics are critical
  • Must have experience with the following:
  • Manufacturing processes and production flow
  • Project management of Capex > $5M and duration > 6 months
  • Automation
  • AutoCAD
  • CNC machines
  • Tolerancing
  • 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and 6 Sigma preferred
  • Guitar experience preferred but not required

  • Less than 10% to local Gibson facilities
