As an Engineering Manager, Software Development in PitchBook's engineering division, you will be leading software engineering, testing, and surrounding development activities for one or more teams for PitchBook globally. You will work closely with colleagues to build simple and elegant solutions to complex challenges, engaging our software engineers to unearth innovative ways to apply modern technologies and tools to delight our customers with the value of PitchBook data.

This is a full-stack role, where you will utilize your strong background in Java, Javascript, React, web services (REST / gRPC), messaging frameworks (Kafka), cloud technologies, caching and persistence to build innovative and performant solutions. You will ensure our stream-aligned teams develop mastery of their discrete domains and have autonomy, ownership, accountability for their deliverables.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Leads software development technical direction and execution (operations, processes, practices, and standards), and code quality for one or more teams, working closely with engineering leadership and product management to craft roadmaps and achieve success criteria
  • Bridges the gap between business/product needs and execution, including by building and delivering on group-level OKRs, identifying resource needs, and building execution plans for initiatives
  • Ensures software development roadmap items are delivered on-time and with exceptional quality
  • Extends influence across distributed engineering teams to make strong day-to-day decisions independently through effective knowledge management, communities-of-practice, mentorship, and training
  • Serves as a force multiplier for product teams by removing roadblocks, implementing process improvements, providing frequent, actionable feedback to team members, and building practices for ideation and innovation
  • Ensures robust engineering diagrams are maintained, developing a detailed understanding of key aspects of current software state, and engaging engineers at a code and design level
  • Describes technical context in intuitive ways for different audiences, adapting communication from highly technical deep dives with engineers to non-technical dialogue with executive stakeholders
  • Establishes and drives a culture founded in creating belonging, psychological safety, candor, connection, cooperation, and fun
  • Understands how to apply Agile, Lean, and principles of fast flow to team efficiency and productivity
  • Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
  • Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested

Skills and Qualifications:

Required skills:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related
  • 5+ years in software development roles. Experience in identity management a plus
  • 2+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct management responsibilities
  • 3+ years hands-on coding and delivering services that are provided "as a service" to other teams as part of a large-scale distributed microservices architecture
  • Current role must be a hands on Managing and coding/design type role.
  • Must have 2 years experience doing annual employee reviews.
  • Experience with Java, Spring Framework (including Spring Boot), and Java-oriented middleware technologies are a must.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Ability to work on site in Seattle 5 days/week.

Desired skills:
  • Experience with Javascript and React (or Angular/Vue) a plus
  • Currently residing in Greater Seattle area.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker, and understands how to build for cloud-scale delivery, including scalability, resiliency, and recoverability
  • Has successfully delivered on large technical initiatives from scoping to launch, with a strong metrics focus
  • Experienced and enthusiastic about using AI for productivity and efficiency (github copilot, claude, or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily.

Compensation
  • Annual base salary: $240,000-$280,000
  • Target annual bonus percentage: 15%
