Full Job Description
About the Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the team building Sybil. You will partner directly with our CTO to set the technical bar, ship product, grow the team, and run the day-to-day engineering operations. This is a player-coach role where the best work gets done by someone who can still write the code, review the PR, and run the one-on-ones in the same week.

This is a foundational hire with real ownership from day one. You will own how engineering operates, who joins the team, and the quality of what we ship. Done well, this role makes the team faster, sharper, and more cohesive that it was before you got here.

What You'll Do
  • Lead a small, high-talent engineering team day-to-day, including one-on-ones, growth conversations, and the operating rhythm that keeps the team moving
  • Stay hands-on in the code, contributing to high-leverage work, reviewing PRs, and setting the technical bar by example
  • Own engineering hiring end-to-end, including sourcing, interviewing, closing, and onboarding the next wave of engineers
  • Run the engineering operating rhythm, including sprint planning, release coordination, and the rituals that keep the team focused and unblocked
  • Partner with the CTO on technical strategy, architecture decisions, and the tradeoffs that shape what we build and how
  • Set and uphold a high bar for code quality, design reviews, and engineering practices across the team
  • Foster a team culture where engineers feel safe to share hunches, push back on decisions, and ship creative work

We're Looking For Someone Who Has A Mix of The Following
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years managing or leading engineering teams
  • Track record as a player-coach who has shipped code and led people at the same time, ideally at a startup or fast-moving team
  • Deep understanding of modern development stacks (Python, TypeScript, React/Next.js, containerization, AWS) with a preference for simple, proven choices over bleeding-edge complexity
  • AI-native both in how you work and what you build, with hands-on experience shipping with LLMs and using AI tools as a first instinct in your own workflow
  • Strong product sense with the ability to push back on roadmap decisions and ask "what are we really trying to do" before jumping to solutions
  • Comfortable owning hiring end-to-end, from sourcing your own pipeline to running a high bar interview loop to closing strong candidates
  • Comfortable operating without a playbook, moving with urgency, and treating company resources like your own
  • Security or cybersecurity product experience is a strong plus but not required

Location: NYC Hybrid

Compensation: The base salary for this full-time position ranges from $210,000-$250,000 In addition to base salary, we offer meaningful equity. We want everyone here to have ownership in what we're building.
