Full Job Description
AMETEK SFMS is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering Professional Services organization responsible for the Wilmington Engineering Test Lab, Engineering Configuration Management and Fleet Support functions. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management, supporting product development, engineering rigor, and regulatory compliance for aerospace and defense programs.

The Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers and specialists, ensure continuity of critical lab and configuration knowledge, and help evolve the function to meet new regulatory and business demands.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the operation, safety, and effectiveness of the Wilmington Engineering Test Lab, including vibration testing, product development validation, and environmental stress screening (ESS), among other tests.
  • Provide technical oversight of lab equipment and testing methodologies.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to ensure testing supports program, customer, and certification requirements.
  • Own engineering document and configuration management, ensuring appropriate rigor, traceability, and compliance.
  • Balance discipline and efficiency, applying processes that are fit-for-purpose without unnecessary complexity.
  • Ensure engineering changes are clearly documented and communicated across cross-functional teams.
  • Provide oversight and coordination related to emerging regulatory requirements, including REACH and PFAS.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into practical engineering and lab execution in partnership with Quality and Supply Chain functions.
  • Coach and develop team members through goal setting, feedback, and increasing responsibility.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Typically holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering, or related discipline. 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
  • Experience with New Product Development and Testing.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience leading salaried employees. Strong senior individual contributors with leadership readiness will be considered in lieu of direct management experience.
  • Experience in aerospace/defense or regulated manufacturing environments
  • Prior responsibility for test lab safety, calibration, equipment procurement (CAPEX) and maintenance.
  • Experience with configuration management / document control systems (PLM/ERP tools,ECN/ECR)
  • Familiarity with relevant standards: AS9100, ISO 17025, DO-160/MIL-STD-810, etc.
  • Due to the nature of SFMS programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the US and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
