Full Job Description
Siemens is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Power Protection & Automation Field Technician Development Program (FTDP). This role will focus on building, training, and managing a team of field technicians who support engineering execution teams with factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, and technical testing activities across the U.S. The goal of this program is to expand field execution capacity by developing technicians who can support tasks such as switchgear functional testing, relay injection testing, protection curve verification, test documentation, and commissioning support. This hybrid position is based at our corporate headquarters in Wendell, NC. Located in the heart of the Research Triangle about 20 minutes east of Raleigh, Wendell offers top-rated schools, a mild climate, easy access to mountains and coast, and a cost of living that allows your compensation to go further. You'll make a difference by: - Lead, coach, and mentor participants in the FTDP. - Deploy technicians nationwide to support FATs, SATs, field testing activities and commissioning. - Coordinate work assignments, travel schedules, tools, overtime, training requirements and software access. - Lead continuous improvement of FTDP technical curriculum with domain experts and Power Academy. Partner with Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Power Academy, and field teams to align technician support with project needs. - Provide technical guidance on switchgear function testing, relay testing, commissioning support, and documentation. - Develop standard processes, checklists, training materials, and hands-on learning activities to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency. Monitor team performance, field readiness, safety, productivity, and employee development. - Capture lessons learned from FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities and apply them to future training, curriculum updates, and field execution improvements. You'll win us over by having the following qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field. - Three (3) or more years of experience in power systems, MV or HV switchgear, power protection and automation, controls, commissioning, field service, or technical project execution. - Experience leading, training, mentoring, or developing technical employees, technicians, or field teams with or without reportees. - Working knowledge of protection relays, commissioning, field execution, switchgear testing, Field Acceptance Tests, and Site Acceptance Tests. - Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills. - Ability to manage team travel schedules, assignments, employee-overtime, tools, software access, and contending project priorities. - Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% domestically to support field teams and customer/project locations. - Must be physically in the Wendell, NC office 2+ days a week. - Legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus. - Prior experience with substations. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
