Position Summary:

The Engineering Manager oversees the design and engineering functions within the mechanical construction division, ensuring projects are technically sound, constructible, and aligned with company standards. This role provides leadership, mentoring, and coordination between design engineers, project managers, and external partners to support the successful delivery of design-build and plan-and-spec projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop junior and design engineers through coaching, technical guidance, and ongoing education.
  • Maintain and manage the engineering design calendar, ensuring accurate scheduling and accountability for project milestones.
  • Prioritize objectives and workloads for the engineering team to align with company and project goals.
  • Engage third-party engineering and design firms to meet business needs and supplement internal capacity.
  • Construction Director and Engineering Manager to work together for alignment by project.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to support technical strategy, value engineering, and project pursuits.
  • Financial aspects of engineering related costs to be managed by the project manager.
  • Project manager to work with engineering manager and fully develop VE ideas with the estimating team. This process is to be owned by the project manager.
  • Establish, document, and maintain company engineering standards, procedures, and design processes.
  • Ensure project constructability and proactively identify and resolve design or coordination issues.
  • Conduct design reviews before proposal and pre-bid phases to confirm accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee design-build efforts, ensuring technical solutions add value and meet client expectations.
  • Manage clean handoffs to project managers, including all required documentation and project details.
  • Lead continuing education and training initiatives for the engineering team to maintain industry knowledge and professional development.
  • Support business development by effectively communicating design value to clients.
  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams in a construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, codes, and constructability standards.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Engineering Manager - Qualifications

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading Grunau's engineering department

while ensuring the successful technical execution of design-build projects. This

individual serves as the technical leader for the company, establishes engineering

standards, mentors the engineering team, and builds strong relationships with owners,

architects, consulting engineers, contractors, and internal operations teams
