Job Description:

Caterpillar's BCP division is hiring for Engineering Manager in Clayton or Sanford NC.

Role Summary:

This role leads the Virtual Product Development (VPD) organization for Building Construction Products, which includes the areas of Finite Element Analysis, Cost Analytics, and Checking & Releasing. In alignment with our enterprise strategy, the primary goal of this role is to transform the way we work and accelerate solutions for our customers by creatively leveraging technology. This includes shifting product development decisions to significantly earlier points in the product development lifecycle through the use of existing and new advanced simulation tools.

Furthermore, this role drives the integration of ever-evolving data insights into VPD activities, drawing not only from in-house testing but also from customer field data. Additionally, this role provides divisional leadership for structures by hosting a quarterly structures forum, advising on key design considerations, and encouraging cross-pollination of ideas across all products. This role is also responsible for enabling world-class product quality by managing the division's Checking & Releasing team for engineering drawings.

Finally, this role leads BCP Engineering's North American university recruiting efforts, collaborating with a team of local recruiters to deliver an annual recruiting strategy, and representing BCP in Caterpillar's enterprise recruiting forums.

What You'll Do (Job Duties)
  • Providing managerial and technical leadership to the Virtual Product Development (VPD) organization, including Finite Element Analysis, Cost Analytics, and Checking & Releasing, to achieve product development and new product introduction objectives.
  • Setting and executing divisional VPD engineering strategy, including evaluation and adoption of new technologies, planning future resource needs and developing team capabilities, and establishing and continuously improving engineering processes and methodologies.
  • Driving transformation of product development by leveraging advanced simulation tools and data-driven insights to enable earlier technical and cost-driven design decisions.
  • Integrating data from in-house testing and an expanding customer field data treasury to improve product performance, quality, and customer outcomes.
  • Establishing a culture that promotes innovation, collaboration, and customer-back thinking, while building strong partnerships across Caterpillar, suppliers, and customers.
  • Providing divisional leadership for structures by hosting a quarterly technical forum, advising on critical design considerations, and fostering cross-team alignment and idea sharing.
  • Ensuring delivery of high-quality drawings by continuously improving performance, standards, and processes of engineering through the Checking & Releasing function.
  • Enabling a strong pipeline of engineering talent through strategic university engagement, structured recruiting programs, and proactive succession planning and development.

  • Leadership and Global Collaboration: Leading and developing high-performing teams while fostering collaboration across global and cross-cultural networks, addressing performance and conflict, and building strong, inclusive partnerships.

  • Proven ability to leverage technology to deliver improved customer outcomes.
  • Significant experience with advanced simulation tools and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Experience leading global teams, including working internationally or across multiple regions and cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a strong engineering organization through effective workforce planning, leadership development, and proactive succession planning and development.
  • Cross-functional experience demonstrating the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and disciplines.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Business.

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.00 - $238,680.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
