Full Job Description

The ASCII team owns the foundational infrastructure that powers how Netflix engineers build software, from source control and artifact management to the CI systems that run millions of builds. We’re currently building the next generation of our CI platform on GitHub Cloud and Actions. Operating at Netflix's scale means we regularly push up against the limits of the tools and platforms we rely on, and our team builds the solutions that help those products scale with us. We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead this team through an exciting period of growth and transformation, helping Netflix engineering move faster and more reliably at scale.

What you will do

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for Netflix's SCM, artifact, and CI infrastructure

  • Own the strategy for our build, CI, and SCM systems and drive reliability, efficiency, and scale across the build ecosystem

  • Lead the development of our next generation CI platform build on Github Cloud and Github Actions, coordinating across hundreds of engineering teams while maintaining continuity and minimizing disruption

  • Identify where we push the boundaries of vendor products, and drive the engineering work to build extensions, workarounds, and platform capabilities that keep those systems healthy and performant

  • Partner closely with engineering teams across Netflix to understand their build and CI needs, co-designing solutions that work at Netflix's scale

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and stakeholders, guiding them through complex, multi-phase migrations with minimal disruption

What you will bring
  • Demonstrated experience managing and scaling GitHub in a large engineering organization. You understand its internals, limitations, and how to operate it at scale.

  • Experience leading large scale migrations, with a clear understanding of the
    technical and organizational challenges involved

  • A history of operating at a scale that requires going beyond what vendor products offer out of the box. You will build custom solutions and partner with vendors to address gaps

  • Hands-on background in CI infrastructure, including platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Buildkite, or similar

  • Strong technical judgment. You can engage with engineers on architecture decisions and make tradeoffs between velocity, reliability, and cost

  • Experience building trust and alignment with diverse internal stakeholders

  • A bias for pragmatic outcomes. You know when to build, when to buy, and when to migrate

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $436,000.00 - $791,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more details about our Benefits here.
