Full Job Description
Amptek is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 engineers and scientists developing next-generation radiation detection products and subsystems. This role is hands-on and highly collaborative, blending technical leadership, people management, and project execution in a fast-paced, high-technology environment.

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for guiding technical direction, developing team members, and ensuring that projects are delivered on schedule, within scope, and to Amptek's high standards of quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical & Project Leadership
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of X-ray and gamma-ray detectors, electronics, embedded systems, and instrumentation from concept through production.
  • Provide technical oversight and architectural guidance across hardware, firmware, software, and physics-based design activities.
  • Ensure engineering designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive technical trade studies, design reviews, root-cause analyses, and continuous product improvements.

People Management
  • Directly manage and mentor a team of engineers and scientists with backgrounds in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, firmware, and related disciplines.
  • Set clear goals, conduct performance reviews, and support career development and succession planning.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable engineering culture focused on technical excellence.

Execution & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, Product Management, and Applications Engineering to ensure smooth product transitions and customer success.
  • Support prototype builds, test efforts, and production ramp-ups.
  • Contribute to resource planning, scheduling, and prioritization across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Interface with engineering and production personnel in Finland and India
  • Execute NPI projects to tollgate development process applying project management skills using Microsoft Project or LiquidPlanner

Process & Quality
  • Improve and maintain engineering processes, documentation, and configuration control.
  • Support ISO-aligned quality systems and design control practices.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and applicable industry requirements.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 2+ years of people management.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams delivering complex hardware and/or instrumentation products.
  • Strong foundation in one or more of the following:
    • Analog and mixed-signal electronics
    • Radiation detectors (SDD, Si-PIN, CdTe, or similar)
    • Embedded systems and firmware
    • Scientific instrumentation or sensor systems
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics or Business Administration.
  • Experience in X-ray, gamma-ray, nuclear, or spectroscopy-based instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with R&D environments supporting a manufacturing production site
  • Prior experience working closely with manufacturing and quality teams.
  • PMP certification a plus


Compensation

Employee Type: Salaried

Salary Minimum: $175,000

Salary Maximum: $200,000
