Job Details

We are a fast-growing technology startup operating at the leading edge of aerospace compliance and unmanned systems monitoring. Our flagship platform is an advanced RF-based detection system built to identify and track unauthorized low-altitude aircraft. We collaborate with public safety, corrections, and regulatory agencies to support airspace security and policy enforcement in sensitive and controlled environments.

About the Role:
We're seeking a strategic and hands-on Engineering Lead to guide backend development and infrastructure efforts across mission-critical systems. This role blends deep technical expertise in Python, Laravel, Shell scripting, and AWS, with strong project management, business alignment, and stakeholder communication skills. You'll play a pivotal role in connecting product goals with scalable engineering solutions while mentoring a team of developers in a high-stakes, Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the backend engineering team through architecture, development, and deployment cycles in a Linux-based cloud environment.
  • Build and maintain scalable backend systems using Python, Laravel (PHP), and Shell scripting.
  • Manage and evolve cloud infrastructure leveraging AWS services (e.g., EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, IAM).
  • Guide Agile delivery processes including sprint planning, retrospectives, and continuous integration.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to product and business teams, translating goals into executable technical plans.
  • Communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders and government-affiliated partners.
  • Ensure system stability, performance, and security across deployments in real-world environments.
  • Balance short-term execution with long-term technical strategy and scalability planning.
  • Mentor junior engineers and champion a culture of quality, reliability, and innovation.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in backend software development with strong proficiency in Python and Laravel.
  • Expertise in Linux system environments and Shell scripting.
  • 2+ years of engineering leadership and Agile project management experience.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
  • Proven ability to explain technical concepts to cross-functional and non-technical audiences.
  • Business-savvy mindset with a keen understanding of operational goals and constraints.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with or interest in RF-based detection systems, sensors, or similar embedded integrations.
  • Familiarity with BASS (please clarify domain if proprietary).
  • Background working with secure systems, public sector clients, or compliance-focused technology.
  • Working knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD, and cloud monitoring.
  • AWS certification or PMP/Scrum credentials.

What We Offer:
  • Competitive compensation including equity opportunities
  • Hybrid/remote flexibility with core hours for collaboration
  • Full health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits
  • Learning stipend and access to technical resources
  • Mission-driven team culture working on real-world safety applications
