What this job involves:

As the Engineering Director, General Maintenance for our premier healthcare client account, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the physical environment and structural integrity of a major clinical campus. In this role, you will oversee general building maintenance, carpentry, painting, locksmithing, and structural upkeep, ensuring that patient rooms, public spaces, and administrative areas remain pristine, safe, and fully functional.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to a diverse team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians, carpenters, painters, and general facilities staff across the hospital campus.

  • Establish, monitor, and optimize key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) for the general maintenance division to ensure peak facility aesthetics and functionality.

  • Manage the operational and capital budgets for general maintenance, identifying cost efficiencies and negotiating service contracts with external vendors.


  • Ensure all general maintenance and aesthetic improvement projects strictly adhere to local building codes, OSHA standards, ADA regulations, and healthcare-specific accreditation requirements such as Joint Commission standards.


  • Oversee the scheduling and deployment of preventative maintenance programs for structural elements, building envelopes, and patient-care areas utilizing the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).


  • Partner closely with infection control, clinical leadership, and environmental services to coordinate maintenance activities and renovations with minimal disruption to patient care.

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in facilities management or engineering operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or director-level role within a hospital, healthcare, or complex institutional environment.


  • Deep operational knowledge of building envelopes, structural maintenance, general carpentry, finishes, lock hardware, and basic electrical/plumbing systems.


  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare compliance standards, including Joint Commission Environment of Care, CMS, NFPA, and OSHA regulations.


  • Strong financial acumen with proven experience in budget development, variance analysis, capital planning, and vendor contract negotiations.


  • Extensive experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to drive labor efficiency and proactive asset management.


  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively with diverse clinical and administrative stakeholders.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.


  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) credential.

  • Advanced proficiency with interior asset mapping, digital building information modeling (BIM), or mobile-first maintenance dispatch solutions.
