Full Job Description
As an Engineering Business Strategist, you will plan and deliver strategic engineering and business improvement projects, undertake analysis, support initiatives, and coordinate efforts to implement and sustain the Corporate Project Management Framework (CPMF). Primary duties include:
- Develop and lead strategic engineering and business improvement projects, analysis, and change management strategies within the Infrastructure Services Department, with a primary focus on the Utilities Delivery Business Unit.
- Develop plans, standards, specifications, and guidance documentation to assist Project Engineers in the planning, risk management, engineering and design, construction, commissioning, transition to operations, and closeout of a variety of projects.
- Research industry best practices for current activities or new initiatives related to project management, engineering and design, commissioning, inspections, operations and maintenance practices, technologies, and project management quality assurance.
- Provide direction on existing business processes, practices, and methodologies to ensure the successful implementation and integration of Information Technology (IT) and Information Management (IM) projects and initiatives into the business unit.
- Provide expert project management advice and guidance to the Project Management Network.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of progressive professional engineering experience including project management, change management, and strategic business planning obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - Preference will be given to applicants with education and experience in a discipline closely associated with the delivery of water utilities (for example: civil, mechanical, environmental, water, wastewater).
- The following are considered to be assets:
- A professional designation such as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Master of Business Administration (MBA), or Master of Public Administration (MPA).
- Work experience with a national/international consulting firm.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated consulting and negotiation skills and the ability to influence to build consensus.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with sound judgement and proven decision making skills.

- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

- Compensation: Level P3E $115,464 - 144,330 per annum
- Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
- Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
