ATTENTION ALL ALASKA RESIDENTS!The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Highways and Aviation, is looking for an Engineering Associate to help us Keep Alaska Moving!What you will be doing:- Collaborate with the Regional Maintenance Engineer to develop the Region's force account preventive maintenance (PM) program and maintain auditable records of completed work. Work with M&O forces to develop procedures and processes that ensure accurate construction records and support informed decision-making for future projects.
- Administer the Aggregate Stockpiling Program by understanding material site resources and site-specific requirements. Manage new production contracts; coordinate with district staff to identify future material needs, quality requirements, and material types; and work with internal and external partners to secure material sale agreements, permits, mining plans, and other documentation required for production.
- Assist in managing contracts (as-needed and other types) in support of M&O operations, with familiarity in both Supply and Construction contracts administered through AASHTOWare.
- Provide engineering and program support to M&O staff throughout NR, including assistance with engineering, funding, regulatory, environmental, and other requirements in support of DOT&PF's mission.
- Support emergency response and recovery efforts by responding to and helping manage repairs when DOT infrastructure is damaged by fires, floods, earthquakes, or other natural disasters.

To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
- Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
- Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
Special Note:This position requires a valid driver's license.
To view the general description and example of duties for positions please go to the following link: Minimum Qualifications Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, land surveying or architecture, of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution:
ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering, architecture, land surveying or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for the non-specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET may substitute for four years of the non-specific required experience.
