Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity available for Avionics Packaging Engineering Supervisor in our Mechanical Engineering Department. We are looking for an experienced Avionics Packaging Engineer dealing with military and airborne systems to join our team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise and direct the work of Engineers and Designers and oversee their output for consistency and accuracy.
  • Plan and schedule work assignments for the team. Monitor project schedules, timelines and deliverables using standard project management tools and engineering systems.
  • Act as the primary contact for the team; serve as the liaison in providing status across engineering and other internal teams.
  • Assure that internal and customer needs are identified and addressed.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members and reviews the accuracy and completeness of assignments.
  • Define individual accountability and milestones to meet project objectives. Communicates performance expectations and provides assistance to resolve problems encountered by the team.
  • May participate or lead design reviews with internal teams or customers.
  • Monitor and maintain budgetary controls; allocate resources and make recommendations on the acquisition and use of equipment, systems, or other capital expenditures.
  • Makes recommendations on human resources actions. (e.g. staffing, training, compensation, etc.)
  • Mentor or serve as a resource to share specialized knowledge with others.
  • Oversee and / or perform electronic packaging mechanical design activities.
  • Assist in assembly and integration of hardware to be tested.
  • Coordinate or perform tests of mechanical assemblies to insure compliance with product specifications.
  • Write test procedures and reports.
  • Write and review requirements.
  • Plan, conduct and document tests in accordance with aerospace specifications.
  • Oversee research, design, development and creation of detail drawings and parts lists for mechanical avionics products.
  • Perform detailed design layout and analysis tasks to ensure that hardware meets all requirements.
  • Interface with various engineering groups, including systems, electrical, mechanical, test, and project engineers to support system level requirements for electronic enclosures.
  • Supports prototype as well as production builds of electronic assemblies. Perform various mechanical design tasks related to demonstrated competencies as directed.
  • Support definition of testing requirements for electronics and electro/mechanical systems per industry and military standards.
  • Familiar with DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 Environmental Requirements.


Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Experience with mechanical packaging design, thermal/vibration analyses and environmental testing of electronic assemblies.
  • Experience with military electronic design and packaging for the operating environment, understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, structural mechanics and dynamics.
  • Experience with CREO CAD software recommended.
  • Experience supervising and / or delegating to work to others.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with design of lightweight, high performance electronics enclosures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
