Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Positions will support the following areas within the Engineering, Technology, and Design Division -
• Design and Construction of Virginia and Columbia-Class submarines
• Design of next generation fast attack submarine (SSNX)
• Design and collaboration work through international agreement to provide submarines to Australia with the AUKUS agreement
• Design, Construction, and Overhaul of Nuclear-powered aircraft carriers
• Design and Construction of the first new battleship since World War II (BBGN)

Key Responsibilities:
• Ability to analyze and research structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs.
• Understand damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
• Technical submittals of design proposals, drawing reviews, presentations, operating instructions, test procedures, maintenance procedures, work deferral requests, departure from specification requests, etc
• Perform dynamic structural (shock) analyses utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) methods with the pre-/post-processor (FEMAP and NASTRAN, Abaqus, Hypermesh, Government codes) computer applications, perform hand calculations using textbook methods, and develop engineering calculation reports, check structural analyses reports
• Coordinate with design, test, construction teams and external customers, i.e. NAVSEA, General Dynamics - Electric Boat, vendors, etc.
Support various on-going efforts in the areas of shock and vibration qualification of equipment, static and dynamic analyses of steel structures, and naval shock and vibration analysis as it relates to foundation design

• Experience or familiarity with submarine or carrier ship systems and structure
• Knowledge of structural fabrication, assembly, and final outfitting
• Requirement Management and System Engineering Approach
• Ability to read and understand system schematics and drawings
• Familiarity with FEMAP, Abaqus, Teamcenter, Hypermesh, ATIS, DDMS, and/or MatLab
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven technical writing ability
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams
• SAP, TeamCenter, NGP, or NX software experience
• Knowledge of SUBSAFE requirements
• Prior leadership, testing, or shipyard integration experience
DOD Security Clearance is preferred, but not required to start
