Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical engineering aspects of Instrumentation, Controls, and Automation for large projects.

  • Develop and review control systems documentation including 1-lines, narratives, and control panel designs.
  • Oversee I&C design work performed by engineering contractors to maintain quality and compliance.
  • Support PLC programming and modifications to maintain automation efficiency.
  • Generate and maintain instrumentation specifications and project standards.
  • Provide technical support during project construction, focusing on programming and commissioning.

Full Job Description
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Technical Engineer of the Instrumentation, Controls, and Automation portion of larger projects.
  • Coordinate I&C activities of projects with the Technical Services Team.
  • Develop/review power distribution 1-lines, SIS/PCS/ESD control systems, Control narratives, Cause and Effect Charts, area classification, control panel drawings, instrumentation specifications, and facility layout.
  • Coordinate, review, and supervise I&C design work done by Engineering contractors.
  • Maintain automation programming for plant PLCs in order to be able to support and modify programming if needed.
  • Develop and maintain instrumentation specifications and standards.
  • Participate in PHA, MOC's, and Hazops.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for project construction and commissioning phases to include control system programming and configuration, factory and site acceptance testing, communications, loop checks, safety testing, and gas plant startups.
  • Work closely with project managers regarding I&C material and man-power budgets, and technical knowledge for major projects.
  • Produce costs estimates for I&C work. Track project costs and forecast to-go costs.
  • Write procedures, organize workflow, and maintain schedules.
  • Investigate and resolve problems associated with new or existing facilities and their instrumentation and control system design.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Engineering or Technical degree from four-year college or university and 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge applicable codes, government regulations, standards, pertaining to process control systems such as NFPA, ISA, and API.
  • Technically competent with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating (in communications with others including company employees and contract workers).
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and finding equipment needed for a project.
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Technically competent or aptitude to becoming competent with Ignition HMI software.
  • Technically competent with Wonderware ArchestrA HMI software.
  • Technically competent with Wonderware InTouch HMI software.
  • Technically competent with Allen Bradley Studio 5000 Logix Designer software.
  • Specify, evaluate, and select instrumentation and specialty equipment for operations and major/complex projects.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, with the ability to respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective and the ability to work shifts for plant or field conditions
  • Ability to travel up to 30-40% of time.
  • Ability to frequently throughout the work shift, push, pull and lift at least a minimum of 50lbs to a minimum height of 3-4 feet and maneuver equipment or parts as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing climate conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders, stairs and platforms at varying heights
