Job Description

As a Project Engineer on the Rail Water Resources team, you will provide various engineering and project management duties. You will assist with gathering survey data, hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and modelling, prepare technical reports, and review CAD drawings. You will assist with obtaining local, state, and federal permits for water resources related projects that impact regulated floodplains and various drainage districts. Travel is required to job sites for field reconnaissance in all types of terrain and weather conditions.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Handle complex engineering tasks, including hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and modelling
  • Prepare project documents and ensure work aligns with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Independently develop new techniques, coordinate with Olsson teams, and guide others on design tasks
  • Collaborate with project managers to report progress and identify challenges
  • Assist with scopes and schedules as well as attend client meetings
  • May supervise and provide technical guidance to less experienced staff
  • Provide guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, and new concepts
  • Maintain project and client information in the firm's project management system
  • May travel and work in all types of terrain and weather conditions at project sites in various stages of construction

You bring to the team:
  • Professional engineering license (PE)
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
  • 4 years or more of water resources engineering experience
  • Experience with floodplain management, including permitting coordination with local, state, and federal agencies
  • Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, master planning, stream restoration is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS or other related hydrologic and hydraulic software is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to contribute and work well with a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to represent Olsson in a professional manner at all times

Actual compensation will vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, geographic location, skills, education, and internal equity.

Colorado Pay Range

$83,000-$120,000 USD
