Our team is responsible for driving quality products throughout the organization by maintaining a corporate culture that emphasizes accountability, drive, and attention to detail at all levels. This position requires a passion for solving sophisticated problems and providing operable solutions; act with minimal direction and take ownership; and be adaptable as we work on a variety of applications and systems.

In this role, you will apply standard engineering techniques to evaluate product conformance through the execution, optimization, and validation of quality processes. This requires verifying product and process conformance, root cause and corrective action analysis, nonconformance disposition, hardware acceptance planning, and design verification. Establishes quality standards for products and processes and suggests modifications meant to prevent defects in components or final products. Works closely with cross-functional teams, including product design, product management, and production, to identify and mitigate quality risks. Audits production processes, raw materials, or suppliers/vendors to ensure that established quality standards are met. Conducts root cause analysis for defects, non-conformities, or other quality failures.

In addition, you will perform reviews and approve manufacturing and integration build documents including work orders and nonconformance records. You will perform periodic audits of the application of our quality system in accordance with AS9100, recommend initiatives and/or changes that will improve product and system quality, and provide quality assurance subject matter expertise to inspection, fabrication, and test. Periodically, you will interface with internal and external customers on quality related concerns and develop training materials to build quality awareness.

In this role you will report directly to the Quality Engineering Manager. As part of a diverse and hardworking team of Quality Engineers, you will share in the team's impact on all aspects of developing, testing, and launching Space systems to support Blue Origin's Vision.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Establish, implement, maintain, and enforce quality system processes that support products in development and production environments
  • Measure, analyze, and improve quality system performance consistent with organization quality goals
  • Review and approve manufacturing build documents including work orders and nonconformance records.
  • Perform periodic audits of the application of our quality system in accordance with AS9100
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and make recommendations to improve the quality and manufacturability of new designs
  • Recommend and improve initiatives and/or changes that will improve product and system quality
  • Provide quality assurance domain expertise to inspection, manufacturing, and test for the Manufacturing team
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers on quality related concerns; develop and present training materials to build quality awareness.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering/Science
  • 5+ years' proven experience in a Quality Engineer role in a production environment. Aerospace, space launch, or military or commercial aviation preferred.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 QM System and/or related quality systems and programs
  • Excellent communication skills, organized, attention to detail, and self-starter
  • Ability to support integration schedules and overtime on as needed basis
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • American Society of Quality, Certified Quality Engineer certification
  • Experience in aerospace, space launch, military/commercial aviation highly preferred
  • Experience with IPC J-STD-001 (Space Addendum)
  • Experience with IPC 620 standard (IPC-WHMA-A-620)
  • Experience in GD&T fundamentals
  • Experience with quality tools such as lean principles, root cause analysis, and corrective action
  • Experience with advanced product quality planning (APQP), process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and various problem solving approaches
  • Quality Management System audit experience
  • Quality performance measurement analysis capabilities
  • Six Sigma Green, Black Belt, or comparable certification
  • Experience with Payload Operations
