Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:

Accountable to plan, direct, manage and coordinate all engineering functions related to design, and development of fluid flow components specifically exposure to valve design in nuclear industry and modifications of existing product line for manufacturing and customer requirements. Support design, production, planning, quality, delivery schedule and other company functions to enable successful production.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • BSME with PE License.
  • Additional schooling - master's degree in mechanical engineering is preferred. Valve design and electrical component training is a definite plus.

EXPERIENCE AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:
  • Five years' design experience of fluid flow components including minimum three years of valve design in nuclear industry, with a demonstrated ability to design develop and prove new concepts and modification of existing products.
  • General knowledge of ASME Section III Codes, ASME/ASTM material for valves in Nuclear Industry and awareness with some military standards.
  • Familiar with ANSI B16.34, B31-1, and B31.3 valve design standards.
  • Strong understanding of geometric tolerance techniques based on ANSI Y14.5M.
  • Knowledge of CSA N285.0 Canadian standards.
  • Experience with commercial grade dedication (CGD), appendix-B, and part 21 for Nuclear Industry is required.
  • Basic knowledge of stress analysis and ASME code formula to prepare valve design reports.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are must.
  • Mathcad software would be a benefit.
  • Acquainted with EPICOR system.
  • Working knowledge of PC based CAD system (by choice - SOLIDWORKS).

  • All work is performed under the minimum supervision of the Manager and/or Supervisor, as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Review customer technical specification, Valve data sheet and select the valve model from exisitng valve data bank or design new valve. Is primary individaul responsible for technical performance of product.
  • Review and comment on customer requested design changes if they have any.
  • Assist and advise the Chief Engineer regarding technical information pertaining to customer specifications on new orders.
  • Prepare detail component drawings, bill of material, test procedure, test report, OMM and perform other support functions in order to meet deadlines, commitments and manufacturing. Whenever posssible, modify existing parts to speed process.
  • Prepare and release all the drawings and other documents required prior to formal release to production.
  • Produce operability calculations to ensure compliance with customer specifications/requests. This is accomplished by static analysis of the valve, keeping in mind force balance, considering pressure forces, spring forces, coil forces, and seismic forces.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills and be able prepare ASME code Design Report using Mathcad software.
  • Prepare and release commercial grade dedication (CGD) documents defining critical characteristics of valve components.
  • During the production stage, as required, provide support in such areas as MRR's (material rejection report), repairs, assembly, and testing operations.
  • Perform liaison having to do with providing technical information to purchasing, production, and any other support departments on matters dealing with procurement of special material, specifications, available sources, subcontracting, and troubleshooting.
  • Support other engineers in groups, quality engineers, test engineers and production lab personnel on valve design so that they can become familiar with the design expectations and documentation of the unit.
  • Work within the team to ensure accurate and timely response to customer requirements.
  • Performs additional duties as needed.
  • Keep well informed on new developments in the engineering field through contact with educational institutions, professional societies, manufacturers and trade shows, perusal of texts, technical papers, journals, and periodicals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lifting up to 25lbs regularly and 50lbs occassionally, pushing, pulling, standing for long periods of time, manual dexterity, visual acuity, and typing.
