The Department of Facilities & Fleet Management, Facilities Construction Management Division (FCM) is seeking a talented, highly qualified, and energetic individual interested in furthering a project management career in a team-oriented, challenging, friendly workplace. This position serves as an Engineer for Prince William County's Capital Improvement Program.
About This Role:

This position serves as an Engineer during the construction phase of large, complex, multi-million-dollar County Capital Projects, such as: detention centers, fire and rescue stations, and office buildings. The successful individual will be responsible for assisting the assigned Principal Engineer during the construction phase of County Capital Projects from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through the Closeout process. They will represent the Department of Facilities & Fleet Management, Facilities Construction Management Division on-site at all times during the construction phase of the assigned Capital Project.

The successful candidate must be able to multi-task, plan two weeks ahead, maintain a schedule, understand and work with multiple architectural and engineering disciplines, solve conflicts shown on construction documents, make independent decisions based on present conditions, and be a team player. The incumbent must have the ability to work with Prince William County leadership, citizen groups, regulatory agencies, and cross-functional teams. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license, the ability to pass a background check if needed for a project, and an educational background / familiarity with industry-standard construction project management methods and techniques.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture and one year of related experience.
  • 1 year of professional experience managing projects as the team leader in non-residential construction.

B. Strong management and coordination skills and the ability to work with all kinds of people and personality types to facilitate the construction process from Notice To Proceed through Closeout.

C. Have an excellent understanding of vertical construction phases and processes. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of professionals, semi-professional, county leadership and public citizen groups.
Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm for a total of 37.5 hours worked per week. Work hours may be flexible based on business needs. This is an on-site position that is not regularly eligible for teleworking. Teleworking may be available in a limited fashion, dependent upon the assigned project, at the sole discretion of the Assistant Director for Facilities Construction Management.
Starting Salary Range:

$70,921.50-$97,968.00
Hiring Bonus - this position qualifies for a one-time cash signing bonus up to $5,000! This bonus will be paid in two installments and is subject to all applicable tax withholding and reporting requirements. The first installment of up to $2,500 is payable upon the County's pay date following the 90th day of employment and the final installment up to $2,500 will be payable on the pay date following the completion of your one-year probation.
