Full Job Description
PURPOSE

The Structural Engineer ("Engineer") plays a key role in delivering structural engineering design and analysis for wireless communication and telecommunications infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and compliance of both new and existing building and non-building structures, as well as non-structural components. The role supports the full project lifecycle - from concept and design through deployment and quality assurance - by collaborating closely with clients, contractors, project design teams, and regulatory authorities.

The Engineer will prepare detailed reports, calculations, and technical analyses, while also providing quality control oversight of work performed by other engineers. This role contributes directly to the safety, reliability, and innovation of tower and telecommunications network projects, supporting the company's mission to connect communities through innovative infrastructure solutions.

LOCATION: Seattle, WA (must be located within the designated region)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Structural Analysis & Design
    • Perform comprehensive structural and mount analysis and design for new and existing building structures, non-building structures (e.g., towers, monopoles), and non-structural equipment, including anchorage and foundation elements.
    • Develop and design modifications for tower reinforcements, extensions, and foundations to ensure compliance with structural standards and client specifications.
    • Evaluate engineering alternatives and recommend solutions that balance safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Technical Documentation and Reporting
    • Prepare detailed engineering reports, calculations, and documentation that effectively communicate design assumptions, methods, and results.
    • Conduct and/or review Quality Assurance-Quality Control (QA/QC) checks on structural analyses, drawings, and engineering deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes.
    • Support construction administration activities, including review of shop drawings, RFIs, and technical submittals.

  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Collaborate with A&E Project Managers, Drafters, Senior Engineers, Clients, Contractors, Building Officials, and other external consultants to align structural design requirements and project objectives.
  • Serve as a technical resource for internal teams and external stakeholders, providing timely responses to structure-related inquiries.
  • Coordinate with building officials and jurisdiction authorities to demonstrate code compliance and secure necessary permits and approvals.

  • Field Operations and Site Support

  • Conduct site visits and field assessments to verify existing conditions and support design feasibility.
  • Prepare detailed field reports documenting observations, measurements, and engineering recommendations.

  • Compliance, Safety, and Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure all work adheres to federal, state, local, and company safety standards, policies, and engineering codes of practice.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, standardization, and process quality within the engineering team.
  • Support mentoring and knowledge-sharing efforts to foster technical development within the team.

  • Additional Duties

Responsibilities and tasks may evolve in response to organizational needs. The incumbent may be required to take on additional projects or duties assigned to support business priorities and team objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License with the ability to obtain multi-state licensure as required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in structural engineering design and analysis.

  • Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience developing construction documents and performing Mount Analyses and Structural Assessments for monopoles, towers, tanks, and buildings.
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering design principles across multiple materials (steel, concrete, wood, and masonry) and relevant design codes and standards (IBC, TIA-222, ASCE, etc.).
  • Proficiency with common structural engineering software such as tnxTower, RISA 3D, Mathcad, and Enercalc.
  • Solid understanding of construction practices and principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).

Office work primarily includes computer-based structural analysis, preparation of technical reports, and virtual collaboration with project teams and clients across multiple locations. Work is typically performed in a standard office environment requiring regular use of computers, video conferencing platforms, and other communication tools.

Field work may involve site visits to telecommunications installations such as towers, rooftops, and monopoles. These assignments may require working in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions, as well as navigating uneven terrain or elevated structures in compliance with safety standards and protocols.

Up to 10% travel (domestic and international) may be required to conduct site inspections, attend client meetings, or provide construction and engineering support. The incumbent must be able to travel on short notice and effectively manage responsibilities across multiple time zones.
