DescriptionPOSITION:
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is seeking applications for an Engineer Operations position in the Operations department and located at Woodbridge, NJ headquarters.
Works under the general direction of the Traffic Engineer to implement effective engineering principles and methods to support the Authority's objective of providing a safe and convenient highway facility for the public.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform general engineering work related to highway traffic operations including project management, plan reviews, field inspections, data analysis, and other technical tasks.
- . Review engineering plans, technical reports, project specifications, and other technical documents for various types of projects including highway construction, roadway resurfacing, bridge construction, facility improvements, signing and striping, and MPT with efficiency to check for errors and conflicts. Ensure that all designs and proposed work comply with the policies and requirements of the Operations Department and the Authority.
- Perform field inspections on construction sites to verify maintenance and protection of traffic procedures are being followed to ensure both worker and patron safety.
- . Represent the Operations Department at project review meetings.
- . Respond to patron questions and complaints regarding roadway conditions and Authority facilities.
- Work in a cooperative and effective manner with other departments and outside agencies such as NJDOT, PANYNJ, local municipalities, etc. on multi-jurisdictional projects and other joint operations initiatives.
- . Inspect the scene of unusual accidents or roadway incidents, evaluate the circumstances of the incident, and determine if roadway deficiencies or areas for improvement exist.
- . Assist with special storm events or other special events or roadway incidents as required or as needed during non-working hours which may include overnight work or work on weekends.
- . Remain on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and participate in the Operations Duty Roster to coordinate traffic operations activities on all matters affecting Turnpike traffic such as weather conditions, accidents, hazardous material spills, congestion, major traffic generating events, and other conditions which adversely affect the roadways to ensure the preservation of the best interest of the Authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Engineer in Training (EIT) in good standing is required.
- Five (5) years of experience working on highway construction, roadway resurfacing and bridge construction projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sound analytical and professional judgment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with other departments.
- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.

This position is represented by AFSCME Local 3914. Members will receive an annual increment (PIP) to their base salary per the guidelines of the CBA.
