Salary Range: $124,000.00 to $153,000.00
The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range
The Role
Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems. Conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors. Conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants. Studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal. Other areas of research include radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses and performance metrics. Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
Specific Areas of Responsibility and necessary skills include:
• Serve as the Nuclear Construction Engineering (N.C.E.) Scoping Cell Lead for the E80's Nuclear Propulsion Division (NPD).
• Multi-discipline Interface: collaborate with all Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural disciplines in the NNS Scoping Cell to generate and issue Request For Quote (RFQ) Change Orders.
• Project Management skills. Experience with managing multiple ongoing projects.
• Integral team player for the NNS Scoping Cell and have ability to collaborate with all levels of management.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Must be a self starter and work at a high technical level of rigor and possess the ability to quickly understand technical issues among all disciplines.

• Familiarity with Propulsion Plant Lifting and Handling
