Salary Range: $124,000.00 to $153,000.00

Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Newport News Shipbuilding is hiring an Engineer 4 to serve in the role of lead engineer for the R&D Advanced Technology and Innovation Pipeline (ATIP) Program funded via the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. This position will be within the Technology Development group, with a focus on evaluating, developing, and managing high risk, high reward projects in this portfolio. Qualified candidates will possess a background in nuclear engineering and/or other shipbuilding experience. Exceptional leadership ability, judgment, and experience is necessary to succeed in this role.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support R&D programs as a subject matter expert in the projects under the ATIP portfolio
- Integrate and coordinate efforts between multiple organizations within the Navy, NNL, HII, industry and other participating activities.
- Engage in frequent communication with NNL technical experts and program managers.
- Serve as program manager for the ATIP portfolio.
- Guide R&D planning activities within and external to the Technology Development group.
- Coordinate with program managers and project leads across HII improve efficiency and knowledge sharing.
- Expand the ATIP project portfolio as a means to increase shipyard efficiencies and capacity.
Must HaveBachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to HaveExperience or knowledge pertaining to Nuclear engineering is desired, but not a requirement.
