Salary Range: $124,000.00 to $153,000.00

The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range

The Role

The senior level engineer will be responsible for propulsion plant system/component designs. Responsibilities include design, qualification, procurement support, and creation of documents (white papers, submittals, etc.) for propulsion plant valves/components that are technically correct, meet all specification requirements, support cost reduction objectives, are of the highest quality, and support downstream customer's needs. Focus is on ownership of the processes required to develop a steam plant valve/component, shipboard installation, and provide maintenance instructions. Specific components that would be under the candidate's area of responsibility are mechanical with several also having electronics associated with their operation. Previous experience in this area is desirable. Candidate must have good problem-solving skills and be able to quickly draw solutions to difficult shipboard issues that are technically correct, cost effective, and complete.

The candidate will be responsible to assist engineers within the group ensuring each engineer's work is technically correct and timely. The candidate shall also assist engineers in the group with reporting, tracking, and maintaining status of their work.

With the many aspects of each design and the quantity of shipboard installations, good organizational skills are a high priority.

The candidate must have good communication skills - both verbally and written. The candidate will be responsible for reporting on their area of cognizance to all levels of NNS management as well as directly to our customer, along with the normal interactions with vendors. The required amount of oversight from your supervisor shall be minimal.

Position may require review of CVN 78 Class steam system drawings and/or product model files. Experience with the CVN 78 Class product model (i.e. NX Team Center) is desired.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
