The Role
We're seeking a highly experienced Engineer IV to lead the design, programming, commissioning, and optimization of sophisticated water treatment systems serving refineries, power plants, chemical processing facilities, and other large industrial customers.
This is not a maintenance-only role. You'll be a technical leader who influences projects from concept through startup, develops advanced PLC and HMI solutions, supports customer operations, and serves as a trusted expert for both internal teams and customers.
If you thrive on solving complex process challenges, commissioning systems in the field, and working directly with industrial customers, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do:
Lead Controls & Automation Projects
- Design and develop industrial control systems for water treatment and purification applications.
- Create and modify PLC programs, HMI applications, and control logic to meet customer and project requirements.
- Support system integration, testing, commissioning, startup, and optimization activities.
- Participate in project discovery sessions, kickoffs, customer meetings, and technical reviews.
Serve as a Technical Expert
- Troubleshoot complex automation, instrumentation, and electrical system issues.
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support, including controls architecture recommendations and cost estimates.
- Support field service teams with controls-related diagnostics and problem resolution.
- Recommend system improvements that enhance reliability, performance, and long-term operating costs.
Drive Customer Success
- Conduct site audits of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Prepare technical reports with findings, recommendations, and improvement strategies.
- Support operator training and knowledge transfer activities.
- Assist with calibration and commissioning of process instrumentation and analytical equipment.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in industrial process control, automation, or instrumentation engineering.
- Proven experience developing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial control systems.
- Strong understanding of P&IDs, ISA standards, instrumentation diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Experience with AutoCAD and electrical drawing markups.
- Ability to develop project plans, define milestones, and manage technical deliverables.
Technical Expertise:
- Allen-Bradley PLC platforms including SLC, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix.
- Siemens PLC platforms including S7-200, S7-300, S7-1200, and S7-1500.
- PLC programming, configuration, diagnostics, and commissioning.
- HMI development, screen design, configuration, and troubleshooting.

- Process instrumentation including flow, pressure, temperature, level, conductivity, pH, ORP, and related technologies.
- Variable Frequency Drives (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Danfoss).
- Industrial power distribution, motor controls, NEC, and NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements.
Preferred:
- Experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, or industrial water processing.
- Experience commissioning systems in refinery, power generation, chemical processing, or other heavy industrial environments.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience developing commissioning procedures, troubleshooting guides, and engineering reports.
