We are seeking an Engineer IV, Civil/Structural to support commercial nuclear power plant projects involving structural analysis, engineering evaluations, design modifications, and plant modernization initiatives.
Position SummaryThe Engineer IV, Civil/Structural independently performs engineering analyses, calculations, evaluations, and design activities supporting commercial nuclear power generation facilities. This position requires a strong technical foundation in structural engineering principles, nuclear plant design requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.
The successful candidate will apply sound engineering judgment to evaluate existing plant conditions, develop practical engineering solutions, and support modifications that improve plant safety, reliability, and performance. Working with limited supervision, the Engineer IV will execute assigned engineering tasks, support multidisciplinary project teams, review technical work products, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers and designers.
Candidates should possess demonstrated experience supporting commercial nuclear facilities and be proficient in structural analysis tools including ANSYS and GT STRUDL.
ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Design- Perform civil and structural engineering analyses and design activities supporting commercial nuclear power plant modifications, upgrades, and modernization projects.
- Develop engineering calculations, design change packages, engineering evaluations, specifications, and supporting technical documentation.
- Apply engineering principles related to structural steel design, reinforced concrete design, seismic analysis, and finite element analysis.
- Evaluate existing plant conditions and develop engineering solutions that improve plant safety, reliability, operability, and regulatory compliance.
- Support development of design criteria, engineering recommendations, technical specifications, and project scopes of work.
- Prepare and review engineering work products in accordance with applicable quality assurance requirements and nuclear industry standards.
Project Execution- Independently execute engineering assignments and major portions of larger projects.
- Coordinate engineering activities with multidisciplinary project teams and client representatives.
- Support project schedules, deliverables, budgets, and quality requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, project meetings, technical discussions, and client interactions.
- Conduct plant walkdowns and field evaluations to support engineering design activities and modification projects.
Technical Leadership- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and designers.
- Review engineering work products prepared by others for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in resolving technical issues affecting plant operations, project execution, and regulatory compliance.
- Support implementation of engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a technical resource on assigned projects and work scopes.
QualificationsEducation Required- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
Experience Required- Minimum seven (7) years of relevant engineering experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of commercial nuclear power experience.
- Demonstrated experience performing engineering calculations, structural analyses, technical evaluations, and design modifications.
- Experience supporting nuclear plant modifications, design change packages, or engineering change activities.
- Experience utilizing ANSYS for structural analysis and finite element modeling.
- Experience utilizing GT STRUDL for structural analysis and modeling.
- Experience utilizing AutoPIPE and/or CAESAR II for piping and stress analysis activities.
- Working knowledge of structural steel and reinforced concrete design principles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including:
Required Licensure- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Preferred Qualifications- Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Direct plant or field experience supporting operating commercial nuclear facilities.
- Experience performing seismic analysis, dynamic analysis, or response spectrum evaluations.
- Experience serving as a technical lead for engineering tasks, project scopes, or work packages.
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects in a regulated environment.
- Experience supporting piping analysis and pipe support design activities.
Additional Requirements- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to pass security and drug screening requirements and maintain unescorted access to commercial nuclear power facilities.
- Ability to travel to client sites and support periods of both field and office work.
- Ability to perform plant walkdowns in industrial environments, including climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined or controlled-access areas.
- Ability to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes.
