This position will serve as a Project Engineer in Asheville and assist Division staff by providing engineering support needed to effectively manage and coordinate project development efforts of the Department, engineering firms and support staff. This position will track all aspects of each assigned project from conception to completion including project feasibility, planning, public involvement, project design, right-of-way acquisition, environmental issues, budget and project letting to ensure timely delivery and development of projects and programs. This position will all third-party agreements with municipalities and developers. This position will communicate verbally and in writing with public officials, consultants, environmental agencies, public and Department staff. This position provides engineering and design guidance to Department staff and private engineering firms serving as a liaison between the firms and the Division. This position will provide status reports on projects and funding sources to the Division Project Development Engineer and the Division Engineer on a regular basis. This position requires a valid driver's license due to required occasional/often business-related travel and the need to operate a company or personal vehicle while conducting technician duties. Responsibilities may include duties such as traveling between company locations or work sites, attending meetings or training sessions, or visiting projects to inspect contractor's work.
The selected candidate will be required to legally operate a motor vehicle.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesKnowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC20 - $70,478.00 - $123,336.00
Management prefers applicants with the following:- Experience working with private engineering firms for review and approval of design plans.
- Knowledge of NCDOT programming, planning, scheduling, and funding procedures.
- Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex projects.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Experience assimilating large amounts of data to properly plan, prioritize, track, and monitor progress on various projects and programs within the NCDOT.

Minimum Education and Experience of Requirement:Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
