Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Composite Engineer to join our team at the Adelanto Flight Test Facility.

Under general supervision and with on-going review, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation, and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity. Assignments are for small projects or phase(s) of larger projects(s) and are normally outlined in terms of specific engineering activities. Engineering tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance. Documents findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to engineering staff. Contacts are primarily internal with infrequent inter-organization or customer contact.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides floor and field support to operations as required to analyze, investigate, and resolve manufacturing and modification related issues.
  • Communicates engineering, manufacturing, and quality requirements in accordance with drawings and technical subject matter.
  • Collaborates with quality, program management, engineering, functional management, and customer management as required to ensure all products meet or exceed the requirements of external or internal customers.
  • Performs root cause analysis for manufacturing issues encountered and is able to quickly provide containment and path forward.
  • Tracks design on related issues to incorporation and provides input and direction to design engineering, program management and quality.
  • Keeps management informed of product performance, quality status, risks and customer concerns. Passes information up and down the management chain efficiently and effectively.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment with constant change of tasks and expected completion dates.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Aerospace engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a good understanding of mechanical and composite engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timelines.
  • Requires good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • Able to work extended hours and on-call as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance is required.

Required Skills:
  • Must have an understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory. Demonstrates the ability to follow and apply engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.
  • Experience with composite materials, resin systems, tools, layup methods, cure cycles, and basic repair methodology.
  • Experience in reading and understanding complex vehicle drawings and composite layup schedules and in providing redlines for these types of documents.
  • Familiar with NDI methods related to both composite and metal structures.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with composite fabrication (wet layup or pre-preg).
  • Experience in a Manufacturing/Liaison Engineering environment, supporting problem investigation/resolution.
  • Experience with SAP, AMPS or other manufacturing execution system applications.
  • Material Review Board certification.
  • Experience writing and reviewing Service Bulletins.
  • Experience with machining methods, manufacturing processes, and CAD modeling (NX preferred).
