Position Location

This position is based in Moorestown, NJ and will require up to 30% travel CONUS/OCONUS.

Job Overview

The Engineer II will support the Chugach Technical Program Manager and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) team by providing expertise in Command and Control (C2) and C4ISR systems. The Engineer will provide day-to-day engineering support to NIWC. Efforts that require engineering support include cabinet integration, cable fabrication, system installation, and C4ISR system issue resolution. Travel up to 30% CONUS/OCONUS is required.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

C2 System Hardware Integration and Installation
  • Design, review, and participate in cabinet integrations for USCG labs, assets, and facilities.
  • Draft, redline and modify hardware installation procedures through testing and implementation.
  • Provide engineering knowledge and support for system components, subassemblies, and hardware cabinets.
  • Design and redline engineering drawings by utilizing existing references or on-hand material.
  • Provide engineering support to the Technical Program Managers in new projects for USCG systems.
  • Lead a team of engineers for engineering efforts such as installs, projects, and reviews
  • Design, review, and participate in internal and external copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Build, install, and repair Mil-Spec copper and fiber optic cables for cabling efforts.
  • Analyze grounding and bonding of system components and cabinets in accordance with TEMPEST and applicable military specifications and provide corrections if needed.
  • Support hardware engineering and install efforts across USCG locations.
    Provide support during system light-off, checkout, and investigation activities in various environments.

USCG Engineering Documentation Sustainment Support
  • Update and maintains hardware reference drawing packages for CGSAIL and USCG assets.
  • Provide technical recommendations for effective system integration methods and hardware installation approaches.
  • Review Engineering documentation for hardware changes to current and future system baselines.
  • Lead efforts to provide a resolution for hardware-related issues in laboratory and operational environments.
  • Assists the lab team with organizing, inventorying, and maintaining lab parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Works collaboratively with engineering, logistics, and installation teams to ensure hardware configurations align with approved baselines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of C4ISR systems, including integration, sustainment, and support.
  • Knowledge of cabinet integration and hardware installation practices.
  • Knowledge of Mil-Spec copper and fiber optic cabling standards and workmanship requirements.
  • Strong understanding of grounding and bonding requirements, including TEMPEST compliance.
  • Ability to perform tasks, duties, and responsibilities under time constraints and various operational environments.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a high-tempo environment especially on travel.
  • Ability to collaborate well in team environments and work independently.
  • Skilled in reading, interpreting, and updating engineering drawings and hardware documentation.
  • Skilled in hands-on use of hand and power tools
  • Strong organizational and task-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic operational environment.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • US citizen
  • Active DOD Secret security clearance.
  • Five (5) years of experience of integrating Military Electronics systems.
  • Must have experience with Mil Spec copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Must have experience with Shipboard Electronics Cabinets
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% CONUS/OCONUS.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

Preferred:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Prior experience supporting USCG or Navy shipboard C2 or C4ISR systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with the Sea Commander System.
  • Experience supporting system integration or operational test events.
  • Experience developing or reviewing engineering documentation and technical drawings.

Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work onsite at Moorestown, NJ
  • Must be able to travel to and work in various operating environments for USCG locations.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders and work at heights.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in confined or low-lit spaces.
  • Must be able to operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Must be able to work around heavy machinery and shipboard equipment.
