Responsibilities

AARP has an opening for an Engineer II in Washington, DC. Responsibilities include: Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance platforms and applications by establishing technical roadmaps, ensuring sound data, integration, and security architectures, and delivering rapid solutions aligned with business outcomes. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical specifications, evaluate engineering roadmaps, and oversee platform operations in Java, AEM, and security to ensure best-in-class standards. Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to define use cases, goals, architecture, and technical roadmap aligned to digital experience objectives. Provide technical leadership for AEM centric digital marketing solutions, mentoring development teams and enforcing best practices and coding standards. Lead end to end design and implementation of AEM 6.5 based web solutions, including templates, components, OSGi services, workflows, and integrations. Architect and implement integrations with backend systems and third party platforms using REST/SOAP web services, Salesforce, and other enterprise systems. Design and optimize AEM infrastructure including CDN, Dispatcher configuration, caching, clustering, replication, and performance tuning on AWS or similar cloud environments. Lead and execute AEM upgrades, service migrations, and repository refactoring while minimizing downtime and risk. Develop and maintain custom tools, utilities, and MCP jobs to streamline site management, content migrations, and operational tasks. Manage AEM content architecture: content fragments, MSM, localization, multilingual sites, DAM, tagging, and metadata strategies. Oversee governance for workflows, user management, permissions (CUG/ACL), and authoring experience including Granite/Coral UI customizations. Troubleshoot complex production issues (including segment corruption and bundle dependency problems), perform root cause analysis, and implement robust fixes. Drive CI/CD practices using Maven, Jenkins, AMS Git, and related tooling to ensure reliable, automated builds and deployments. Prepare and review technical design documents, estimates, and solution options and present recommendations to senior leadership and client stakeholders.

Qualifications

Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering, or related field, and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a software developer-related occupation.

Experience must include:
  1. HTML5/HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
  2. AEM;
  3. Java;
  4. Maven;
  5. CI/CD Pipelines;
  6. Experience with Agile Methodology and code repository;
  7. Web Accessibility; and
  8. Web Performance.

The salary range for this position is $177,124.28 to $187,000 annually.
