Job Description:Microchip Technology Inc. has an opening for an Engineer I-Software Development position in Houston, Texas. In this role, the candidate will work as a C++ software developer in the L1 Quality Assurance (QA) team to enhance and maintain a custom framework for validating storage solutions in a fast paced, non-stop, automated test environment.
Responsibilities:- Help design, develop, and maintain an ever-expanding automation QA framework and suite of test cases and tools that use system-level and custom IOCTL calls to validate a complete data center storage solution
- Understand product implementation and expected product behaviors by reading specifications and source code
- Develop automated tests for validating new solutions and feature sets
- Improve the efficiency and capabilities of the QA automated test framework
- Work with QA and Development teams to debug and triage both test case and product failures
- Maintain servers and other hardware/software components used for continuous automated testing
- Work with QA and Development teams to track and provide estimates for tasks by utilizing and following the Agile methodology
Requirements/Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
- 2+ years of proven programming experience using C++ and Bash Shell scripting
- Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design and programming best practices
- Strong analysis and debug skills
- Experience working in multi-threaded environments
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with Linux operating systems
Preferred Qualifications:- Able to apply memory management techniques in low-memory environments
- Familiarity with server storage technologies and concepts (RAID, SCSI, etc.)
- In addition to strong C++ coding experience, experience with Java, Python, and/or Perl is a plus
