Our location in Sunnyvale, CA is looking for a dynamic Electrical Engineer I. In this role, you will support the design, development, and evaluation of prototype printed circuit boards (PCBs), fixtures, and tools for advanced medical devices. You will apply engineering and scientific principles to evaluate technical challenges and contribute to effective solutions while exercising sound technical judgment under the guidance of senior engineers. Responsibilities include performing engineering studies and supporting electrical characterization and verification activities, including test planning, automation, execution, and data analysis, for Class III active implantable medical devices.

The Electrical Engineer I will also be responsible for developing and executing test methods, processes, and automation, and evaluating results against established requirements and performance limits. This role requires thorough documentation of development and verification activities in compliance with design control and regulatory requirements. You will utilize standard electronic laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators, LCR meters, and power supplies, to assess device capabilities. Additionally, you will prepare detailed test reports, verification summaries, and review materials, including statistical analysis, while identifying and implementing efficient, cost-effective engineering practices and continuously improving processes.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides supporting services and tooling at the direction of senior engineers and scientists.
• Lays out and constructs a variety of prototype tools and fixtures required for development purposes.
• Conducts evaluations, tests and analyses related to feasibility and function.
• Performs troubleshooting and fault isolation activities on a variety of breadboards and hybrids.
• Execute engineering assignments with guidance from senior engineers, exercising sound technical judgment
• Document development and verification activities in compliance with design control and regulatory requirements
• Utilize standard electronic laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, LCR meters, and power supplies
• Conducts measurements specified in design verification plans, documents and tabulates results, and provides engineering test reports.
• Documents custom tools with specifications, schematics and mechanical layouts to support document control and tool release.
• Performs analysis, troubleshooting and testing on embedded systems, DSP and mixed signal integrated circuits.
• Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
• Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) -- Electrical/electronic engineering or related engineering field. ☒ an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum 3 years Relevant work experience in performing the layout construction, and evaluation of a variety of Printed Circuit Boards, fixtures and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable FDA regulations and Company operating procedures, processes, policies and tasks.
  • Demonstrated personal computer skills, including spreadsheet, word processing, database management, and specialized applications.
  • Advanced credential or professional certification in a relevant discipline/concentration desired.
  • Six-Sigma knowledge and experience desired.
  • Training and experience in manufacturing processes and methods desired, especially in the manufacturing of medical devices.

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner. Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Prefer candidate that has experience with simulation software (e.g. SPICE, Matlab, COMSOL).
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.
