Full Job Description
Job Description:

As part of the CAD Methodology team, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing EDA tools and design flows that enable Microchip to deliver best-in-class semiconductor products-optimized for power, performance, area, and quality-using cutting-edge implementation methodologies and industry-leading commercial software tools.

Microchip designs products for a wide range of end markets and technologies, including some of the most advanced transistor processes available today.

A forward-looking component of this role involves building agentic AI systems that intelligently orchestrate and automate complex EDA workflows-reducing manual intervention, accelerating design closure, and surfacing actionable insights across the design flow.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with an experienced design methodology team to build a robust scripting infrastructure that improves the qualification strategy for commercial EDA tools used in digital IC design.
  • Understand success criteria for various steps and tools in the design flow, then develop automation scripts to validate tool behavior across diverse test scenarios.
  • Design, develop, and deploy agentic AI systems that autonomously orchestrate multi-step EDA workflows, including tool invocation, result parsing, decision-making, and iterative refinement.
  • Integrate large language model (LLM)-based agents with EDA tool APIs and scripting environments (Tcl, Python) to enable natural-language-driven design flow control and intelligent debugging assistance.
  • Build and maintain AI agent pipelines that monitor design metrics (timing, power, area, DRC/LVS violations) and autonomously trigger corrective actions or escalate to engineers based on configurable thresholds.
  • Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflows to ground AI agents in EDA tool documentation, internal methodology guidelines, and historical design data, enabling context-aware recommendations.
  • Evaluate and benchmark agentic frameworks and LLM models for applicability to semiconductor CAD use cases; contribute findings back to the broader methodology team.
  • Gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art semiconductor development tools, including:
  • Logic synthesis
  • Logical equivalence checking
  • Static timing analysis
  • Low-power verification
  • Digital circuit layout in CMOS and FinFET technologies

What We Offer:
  • Mentorship and coaching from seasoned methodology experts.
  • Exposure to advanced design methodologies and leading-edge technologies.
  • Opportunities to contribute to high-impact projects that shape next-generation semiconductor products.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Agentic AI (Required)
  • Understanding of agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar orchestration platforms
  • Experience building multi-step AI agent pipelines that integrate tool use, memory, planning, and feedback loops
  • Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models) and prompt engineering techniques
  • Understanding of RAG architectures - vector databases, embedding models, and document retrieval pipelines
  • Ability to evaluate agent - reliability, failure modes, and guardrails in an engineering/automation context

Core Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter, organized, and motivated to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

EDA & Digital Design:
  • Strong understanding of Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of digital design and HDLs (Verilog and/or VHDL)
  • Knowledge of digital systems and computer architectures
  • Experience with simulation and hardware verification/debug
  • Strong programming and scripting skills: C/C++, Perl, Python, Tcl, Bash, C shell

Education & Experience:
  • BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 0-3 years of professional experience

Travel Time:

0% - 25%
