Salary Range: $89,000.00 to $110,000.00
The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range
The Role
Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
Position requires a BS or MS in engineering from an ABET accredited program. Experience and/or course work in acoustics or vibrations is preferred in order to analyze acoustic engineering issues in ship designs. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, and able to work in a team environment in order to achieve goals and meet timelines. The candidate should be a quick learner and able to apply new skills to perform acoustic analysis on new ship designs or concepts. Good communication and writing skills will be required in order to present work to peers and customers. Candidate must be a self-starter, able to work independently, and perform engineering acoustic analyses with documented rigor. Working level of knowledge of acoustic/vibration transfer path analysis, acoustic/vibration finite element analysis, digital signal processing, technical writing, acoustic/vibration testing, and ship or systems engineering is a plus. Experience with MATLAB, SIMULINK, PYTHON, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH, or SEAM is a plus.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
• Working level knowledge of the physics of acoustics
• Working level knowledge of the physics of vibrations
• Understanding of the basic principles of mechanical machinery design (pumps, motors, gears, etc.)
• Understanding of the basic principles of fluid system design (valves, heat exchangers, condensers, compressors, thermodynamics)
• Understanding of lumped parameter models
