Salary Range: $99,000.00 to $122,000.00

The Role

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

The AUKUS SSNA Program is seeking a strong engineer to support the development of the next generation of fast attack submarines. This position will be responsible for working collaboratively with other key stakeholders throughout the SSNA program and will interface with UK's BAE Systems integrated delivery teams (IDTs) to help design portions of the UK and Australian SSNA nuclear-powered submarine.

The engineer will need to:
• Engage with shipyards, customers and other stakeholders to collect feedback for design incorporation.
• Work with multi-discipline teams on incorporation of SSNA design principles
• Solve complex spatial integration issues while meeting system and overall ship requirements
• Be able to effectively communicate with both internal leadership and external customer(s).
• Design and develop electrical and combat systems.
• Responsible for establishing system and sub-system design requirements based on provided top level requirements.
• Responsible for managing system interfaces.
• Responsible for identifying and developing components and sub-systems to ensure system meets overall established requirements.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Experience in one or more of the following:
• Sonar Systems
• Computer/Data System Integration
• Radio System Integration
• Cabling
• Requirement Management and System Engineering Approach
• Excellent Written and oral communication skills
• Ability to read and understand system schematics and drawings

Systems engineering or Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience is desired. Specific experience using Cameo or Matlab Systems Composer is preferred.
