Salary Range: $89,000.00 to $110,000.00

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Electrical Engineer 2 to join our Nuclear Reactor Servicing Engineering team at Newport News Shipbuilding. As an Electrical Engineer 2, you will play a critical role in researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks that support the fueling, refueling, and defueling of Navy nuclear reactors. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with endless possibilities for professional growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Electrical Design: Design and develop electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes, with a focus on nuclear reactor servicing applications.
  • Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve complex electrical issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques and tools to minimize downtime and optimize system performance.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, nuclear engineers, and technicians, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems and components.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, industry trends, and best practices in electrical engineering, and apply this knowledge to improve processes and procedures.
  • On-Site Support: Provide on-site engineering within nuclear facilities and/or shipboard to support electrical system operations upon installation and maintenance

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have
• Candidate should have some basic electrical engineering experience with electrical system design, maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial equipment and/or crane/lifting and handling equipment.
• Basic knowledge of VFD driven motors and radio controls for both AC & DC systems.
• Basic proficiency in PLC programming, Auto CAD, and relevant electrical engineering software.
• Effective communication, collaboration, and computer skills are preferred.
• Problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills are preferred.
