Salary Range: $89,000.00 to $110,000.00

The Role

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

This position is intended for the Generator group in the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard. The incumbent will be responsible for recommending and designing upgrades to existing electro-mechanical systems; applying electrical, and electronic engineering principles to test and troubleshoot electro-mechanical and control systems in support of the U.S. Navy; and working with a group of technical individuals who analyze problems, research, design, and develop solutions to resolve problems associated with power generation equipment.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

The preferred candidate will be familiar with one or more of the following:
  • Cybersecurity concerns and mitigation techniques.
  • Modeling software (MATLAB, PLECS, Simcenter Amesim, etc.) used to generate physics-based models of electrical circuits and control systems.
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop and/or Controller-in-the-Loop test bed configuration, set-up, or use.
  • C+ and Assembly programming languages.
  • Familiarity with protective relays and generator protection plans.
