Job Information

We are seeking an engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of mechanical, structural, thermal, and site-interface systems for our hydrogen generation systems. This role will own the product-side site integration of the modules that make up our product, ensuring module interfaces, layouts, installation requirements, access, utilities, and customer site requirements are coordinated from concept through deployment. The role is not responsible for civil engineering design; however, the engineer will serve as a technical conduit between the product design team and the Site Design Engineer of Record to ensure product requirements, site interfaces, and installation constraints are clearly communicated and incorporated into the overall site design. Collaboration with multi-discipline groups, including RD&E, Installation, Business Development, civil/structural stakeholders, customers, EPC contractors, and the Site Design Engineer of Record, is crucial to achieving business objectives.

The role includes developing product designs, definitions, and documentation to support scalable hydrogen-based energy systems' installation and service efforts. Additionally, utilizing innovative industry technologies and product development techniques to support new product lines will be essential. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in systems design, strong collaborative skills, leadership experience, and an innovative mindset.

Role & Responsibility

  • Design components to meet all functional requirements from concept to production
  • Own site integration of product modules, including module-to-module interfaces, site layout, installation envelopes, access requirements, utility connections, service clearances, and constructability considerations.
  • Coordinate product-side civil/site interface requirements for modular product installation, including foundation loads and interface points, anchorage assumptions, equipment pad needs, access paths, lifting/rigging zones, and field installation constraints for review and incorporation by the Site Design Engineer of Record.
  • Collaborate with cross functional groups to coordinate design activities and ensure thorough, accurate documentation of components and subassemblies.
  • Lead cross-functional integration reviews to ensure each product module aligns with customer site requirements, installation sequence, field execution needs, and overall product architecture.
  • Review and interpret site layout drawings, general arrangement drawings, foundation/interface information, and installation details to identify product integration risks, design impacts, and clarification needs for the Site Design Engineer of Record.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing (Suppliers) and other relevant business entities to coordinate implementation of new designs and develop transition plans to bridge between design revisions.
  • Ensure the designs have been validated and thoroughly documented prior to production release.
  • Consistent use of root cause techniques to determine true root cause and enact mitigation/corrective actions going forward.
  • Stay abreast of industry-wide design concepts, developments, and documentation to support leading technological edge, progress, and achievements in the design discipline.
  • Able to execute concept generation and down select of designs.
  • Work across multi-discipline groups to lead teams effectively and to share technical knowledge and know-how.
  • Support Cost and Time estimates to complete install and service support on product.
  • Perform supporting engineering analysis on designs through development (FEA, CFD, Hand Calcs)
  • Understand applicable certification, building, civil/site, and structural considerations that impact product layout, site interfaces, access, and integration of subsystems, while coordinating final civil and structural design responsibility through the Site Design Engineer of Record.
  • Translate site integration requirements into product design inputs, interface documentation, installation guidance, and design verification criteria for modular product deployment.

Job Requirement - Education & Experience

  • BA/BS degree with 8+ years of experience in related field.
  • MA/MS degree with 6+ years of experience in related field.
  • Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree; exposure to civil, structural, construction, or site engineering interfaces preferred.
  • Experience with properly executing customer requirements.
  • Experience serving as a coordination point between product engineering and civil, structural, construction, EPC, or Site Design Engineer of Record teams preferred.

Job Requirement - Knowledge & Skill

  • Solid mechanical design engineering background.
  • Robust process and systems understanding of industrial electromechanical designs (Piping, Structures, Electronics Integration).
  • Strong understanding of modular product integration at customer sites, including equipment layout, interface control, site utilities, installation planning, field access, and serviceability requirements.
  • Familiarity with civil engineering applications that affect product installation, such as equipment foundations, anchoring interfaces, site layout coordination, drainage/grading constraints, structural interfaces, plumbing and construction drawing review.
  • Knowledge of or direct experience in fuel cell or electrolyzer balance of plant design is a benefit.
  • Layout and design mechanical components.
  • Design experience with Process Piping Designs (Powerplants, Electrolyzer, Ships, Boilers, Industrial Designs, Generators, Water Treatment, Oil and Gas).
  • Pipe and Tube Welded Assemblies (1" up to 8" Pipe, Tube and Hose) (Steel and Stainless Steel)
  • Experience with ASME B31 Pressure Piping (design, analysis, & testing).
  • Experience with Structural Weldments and Pressure Vessels preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to use material and design standards from ASTM, ASME, ISO, IEC, AWS, KGS.
    • ISO 22734
    • IEC 60079-10-1
    • CSA FC4
  • Working knowledge of civil/structural considerations, site permitting inputs, and construction documentation preferred, with responsibility limited to product-side integration and coordination with the Site Design Engineer of Record.
  • Proficiency with, CREO, Windchill, ANSYS, and Mathcad preferred.
  • Strong focus on teamwork and employee development.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • Experience leading technical integration across product engineering, installation teams, suppliers, customers, and EPC contractors.
