Summary

As an Engineer - Design/Configuration Management Electrical/I&C, you will help ensure the reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance of critical power system infrastructure. By applying engineering analysis, technical expertise, and sound decision-making, you will contribute to projects and system plans that support safe, dependable energy delivery for the communities APS serves. Your work will help shape solutions that support operational excellence today while preparing for future energy needs.

What Your Day Would Be Like
  • Provide engineering analysis and technical support for electrical and instrumentation & control (I&C) systems that help maintain reliable power generation and delivery.
  • Participate in the development of long-range system plans, helping identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Evaluate engineering requests, proposals, and technical challenges, recommending solutions based on data, analysis, and engineering principles.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project teams, and operational stakeholders to develop and implement effective technical solutions.
  • Present technical findings, recommendations, and project updates to support informed decision-making.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Minimum Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelors degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). Engineering degree must be from an accredited College of Engineering Program. (A four-year Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered directly equivalent to a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Equivalency may be considered based on a review of the degree program curriculum, subject to approval by Engineering department management.)
  • PLUS five (5) years experience in Engineering-related positions.
  • A relevant Masters degree in Engineering may substitute for one (1) year of required experience.


Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods and safety standards in the area of applicable engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the utility industry. Experience in nuclear industry for jobs at Palo Verde.
  • Professional Engineer licensure.


Nuclear Requirements

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member. Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities. These are conditions of employment at PVNGS.

Major Accountabilities

  • Prepares engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations and verifications.
  • Complies with design, regulatory, operating and maintenance requirements.
  • Ensures engineering analyses, design, project control, schedule commitments, or oversight work is technically sound, cost effective, and in compliance with established standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Checks and reviews analysis, evaluations, and investigations of others.
  • Interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements, budget and schedule.
  • Contacts customers and various levels of management to obtain or present technical data.
  • Presents the results of designs, studies projects (in terms of new techniques) or approaches to subordinates, colleagues, management and customers.
  • Enhances department performance and productivity and/or unit performance by formulating, coordinating, performing analysis and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance to department personnel to enhance department performance and productivity.
  • May provide oversight of engineering technical programs by managing the program requirements, working with cross organizational partners, reviewing and internalizing operating experience and coordinating corrective actions to ensure engineering program elements continue to remain healthy.
  • May assume responsibility for small- to medium-scale projects which include planning, designing, scheduling and coordinating all facets of the project.
  • Identifies potential schedule or quality problems and initiates corrective action. Takes initiative to eliminate barriers and uses resources to ensure desired results.
  • May interface with outside agencies and regulatory authorities.
  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.
  • May participate in developing long-range strategies for significant site problems.
  • Provides input to projects and recommends modifications to increase operating efficiency and/or reviews design and documentation of projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, schedules and any regulatory requirements.
  • Remains cognizant of current technology and engineering developments as well as industry and competitive developments.


Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.
  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona.
  • Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
  • Role types are subject to change based on business need.


Any PVGS employees may be called upon for random Fitness for Duty (FFD) testing during scheduled working hours. Employees, if off-site, must report to FFD at Palo Verde as soon as reasonably practicable, but no more than 120 minutes after being notified. Employees who are onsite when notified will have no more than 60 minutes to report after being notified.
