Ideal candidate will have experience applying applicable codes, standards, and engineering judgement to facilitate run/repair/replace decisions for aging power plant infrastructure consisting of concrete, steel, FRP, railroads, and earthen embankments. This position will require 25% - 50% travel across the TVA service territory, including day trips and overnight trips.

Job Summary

Serves as the primary technical expert for Power Operations for assigned assets and equipment, systems, and processes. The incumbent serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and performs work that is critical for successful implementation of Engineering and Technical Program responsibilities and strategies. Performs and directs studies to evaluate the effects of modifications, deterioration, deletions, and additions to major systems and equipment and makes recommendations on the impact and develops technical guidance documents for engineering. Assists generating units, and engineering resources in resolution of equipment and system problems as requested. As SME, the incumbent will be expected to apply demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes and standards, risk evaluation and management, failure mechanisms and NDE technologies in resolution of equipment issues. The incumbent will be responsible for strategic asset planning, support of assigned programs, implementation of industry best practices and latest advances in technologies, and knowledge transfer and mentoring in support of engineering and site resources.

As work needs dictate performs or directs cross -discipline engineering work in support of Coal, Gas and Hydro generating units. Responsible for fleet asset performance monitoring and development of performance improvement plans. Provides expert technical assistance in performing, or reviewing, apparent and root cause analyses of equipment and systems issues to identify the specific cause(s) of problems and development of corrective actions.

May serve as project engineer or technical advisor for assigned projects including large, cross-discipline, and more complex projects. As assigned, duties include leading the project team, establishing and accomplishing valid requirements, monitoring all phases of project performance, approving project changes within approved limits, and conducting lessons learned reviews at project completion. May provide administrative and technical supervision to engineers and support personnel.

Supervision Received

Supervision and guidance is provided by the first-line manager and is generally limited to overall objectives, general guidelines and policy, and work priorities. The incumbent plans and executes the work with minimal supervision.

Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)

Knowledge of Scientific and Engineering Principles, and applicable Codes and Standards; Communication, Including Technical Writing, and detailed knowledge of plant systems, their history, and performance capabilities and limitations. Based on resource needs position may require specific asset/structure knowledge (such as chimneys, silos, exhaust stacks, piping, etc).

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Civil Engineering Preferred, but may be substituted with acceptable technical degree and experience based on need. Full competence and demonstrated proficiency as a civil engineer as evident by several years of progressive and developmental experience as an engineer.

License as a Professional Engineer is desirable. Must be willing and able to travel to plant locations as required for fleet support. Ability to assume assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, on-call support for emergent fleet support.
